Complete Glenravel RC Church
« on: Sunday 01 August 10 14:53 BST (UK) »
Hi

Help please to establish which Church is Glenravel RC Churchyard? I have found a memorial for ancestors buried in Glenravel RC Churchyard between 1901/1911 but unsure if that is the name of the church or if it is the Mary Queen of Peace church. Ancestors according to FS pilot site was born in Cargan.

Hi Fiona,
I have just joined today. i cant answer your question but i have an old photo of St Mary's RC chapel if that helps. Even though i am in Australia i know my Great Grandmother Susannah Campbell from Evishnablay was buried there 25th Sept 1926. Her husband i imagine was also buried there. He died between 1901 and 1911. if that doesnt help sorry for wasting your time.

Mary Queen of Peace Church is a relatively new church built in the 1980s to replace St Mary's chapel which was blown up and destroyed by terrorists in 1972. (They put a bomb in a milk churn and placed it by the altar. Astonishing and despicable, but there you go). So the graveyard you are interested in was the one for St Mary's chapel.

Hiya Carol

Thank you for the photo. Ancestors married there in 1875 and buried between 1901/11.

John Robinson and Ann Dornan/Dornin they had according to 1911 census 13 children with 12 living but I can only find 10. Im sort of stuck at them at the moment. Im sure the other day I was on one of the Irish sites and from the marriage the fathers name for John was also John but cannot remember how to see it again ???.I will try tomorrow.
