The Common Room / Re: Huguenot or not Huguenot

I’m with you and able to confirm everything you have on the Meneres back to Joseph’s marriage to Ms Prickett. Have info from Certs etc as well. Got stuck with Joseph, b. 1770, poss France ... years ago and gave up after some searches in france throwing up a few possibilities that seemed impossible to connect quantifiable with the Jospeh I was looking for.
However, with regard to Joseph and Toinette... I had found this marriage but then drew a blank, was hoping to find offspring of this couple or Toinettes death or something - came away with a blank.
I don’t have everything/documents immediately handy ..so can’t remember clearly right now if Joseph was listed as a widower in relation to his marriage to Ms Prickett......which might have been why I was looking for Toinettes death ..... another Joseph Menere, b 1768 in same area in France married, procreated and clearly stayed in france so I was able to scrub that one off my list of possibilities....

Hi Peter
What clues/details pointed you to searching for Joseph in the Dordogne, France area? Am intrigued.

Hi Sandy
I am a direct descendant of Joseph Thompson (actually there were quite a few generations of Josephs) - if that is what you are looking for?
I have a fair bit of family history info collated over the years - Thompson family back to mid-late 1600s in Northamptonshire from memory.
Haven't been active for a couple of years.
Happy to share

Hi Sally
Any info on Tubberdy/Tuberdy/Tauberdy make make a chink in my brick wall.  I'm not able to access my FH database at the moment so am about to spout a fair bit of info at you from memory. You need to make 2 more posts before I can PM you and we can exchange info.
In summary, my direct ancestor Bridget Tobin allegedly married a John Tubberdy before leaving Tipperary for New South Wales in the 1840s. No sign of this John Tubberdy on the boat or in Australia. I believe she had a sister Mary Tobin who had headed to OZ earlier, Mary subsequently married a Wilson bloke in Balmain. I also believe that Bridget had a sister, Joannah Tobin who married an Edwin (or Edmond) Tarpy in Tipperary.
Bridget and John Tubberdy (married or not or maybe John was fictional) had 2 daughters, Ellen and Mary Anne Tauberdy/Tubberdy, both headed to Australia in 1856 to meet up with their mother. Ellen was 10 years older than Mary Anne (b. Abt 1846). I have tracked Ellen, who she married etc. Mary Anne is my direct ancestor and I have heaps of info on these Tubberdy girls once they hit OZ (have same for their mother) but cannot track them in Cahir, Tipperary or surrounds.
So, if you have a stray John Tubberdy in or around Cahir, Tipperary who procreates with a Bridget Tobin and has at least 2 daughters in 1830s and 1840s, and John is dead by 1856 (as noted on daughters immigration info) then I would be forever grateful and hysterical with excitement.

Ireland / Re: PRONI - St Anne's Shankill, Belfast (Connor Diocese) question

Six months on and I haven't proceeded far due to other circumstances.
I did contact St Anne's and they very promptly responded with an enquiry form along with a good explanation of fees involved for the various types of possible search scopes. Hopefully one day in the near future I will get back into the chase!

Technical Help / Re: Is Twitter worth looking at, please?
« on: Friday 17 June 16 12:48 BST (UK)  »
Those below the age of 21 in my house tell me that no-one under the age of 30 uses Twitter - "it's for old people" apparently who "think they are up with it" but are "just so not". And, looking at who is maniacally tweeting it seems that the assessment could well be correct.

Majm, Merlin, sparrat (not sure of spelling), Ruskie, Billy Blue, km17 (I think that is correct) ..... Plus more I can't remember.  And, yes, I confess to "stalking" as well as they all give good tips and ideas on alternative sources and interesting ways to attack brick walls.  All freely and generously given. Fabulous.

Hi Sam Sims
First up - welcome
Second - I think you might have posted your query on an unrelated thread. This one is chasing down mysterious Kellehers and Buckleys. But perhaps you are wanting to get in touch with a particular person who posted on this thread?
Third - I think you need to make two more posts to "finalise" your RC status. Just respond to this twice and you will be all good to go.
