Yes, it was all very sad.  The anniversary of DDay coming up, is such a sad reminder.
Did some recent research on my great-grandmother’s aunt, and found out one of her sons lost three of his sons in WW1.  Found all three mentioned in BNA, they lived in Halifax, W. Yorks.  Photos included, added to the poignancy.

You’re very welcome!
There was a mention of his fathers’s death in that paper, too, during WWI.

The same paper, 15 Feb 1945, states that he was home in Carrickfergus at the same address you mentioned in your query.

It states that their elder son, Francis, had been admitted to hospital in England and that his condition was serious.

Can you guess?
It’s a big country, though…
My ancestors are from far away (England and likely one smidgen from Ireland).  My children have roots in NAmerica back to 1640 in Massachusetts and in the late 1700’s several began the trek northward to Quebec, and others arrived in Canada from the British Isles.  As far as we can tell all their ancestors were from England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.
OH is a real mix - England, Scotland, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, and probably Germany.  Some colonial US settlers (New Amsterdam), then to Canada as Loyalists, then back to the US, then back to Canada.  And one of this generation is back in the British Isles!

What a wonderful thing your mother did!  That she taught you those skills was wonderful too!
The attachment to children, both young and older, is profound.  As a retired high school teacher, I particularly remember the first batch of students I had, and often wonder what became of them all.

FreeBMD has over 45,000 Franks listed, so likely English in origin. Fox has over 50,000.  I have never thought of Fox as a Jewish name, are you thinking of Fuchs, which I believe is German?
I too have many ancestors with Old Testament names, including Jabez, Isaiah, Esther, Naomi, etc. in fact, Esther married a Saul (Surname), but still no Jewish connections!  Not according to my DNA, anyway, or anything else I’ve come across.

Hi Diana,

Can you tell me where you found the will for the father of John Weston otherwise Uptain?  Also, do you have a transcription?

Regards,

Chris.
