Hello,
I found a baptism record from Lewes, Sussex in 1738 where the child's father is noted as a Scottish foot soldier. Could anyone tell me why a Scottish foot soldier would have been in Lewes in 1738?
Any help would be much appreciated.  :)

Yes, I suspect that entry is for Janet. A couple of her siblings were born in Greenlaw so there seems to be some family connection between Gretna and Greenlaw.

Hi Colin, yes that's them. I think Thomas's father is probably called George but a few Ancestry users seem to think his name was John.
I'm really interested in George's brewing career that proberton mentioned as it would help connect to another family member.
