G'day all,

I am seeking information about John Whyte Black born about 1864 in place unknown, died 1933 in Leeton, New South Wales. I have been able to find some information on the Ancestry Library Edition, but nothing about his ancestors. I would appreciate your help. Thanks.

Children of John Huddy RETALLACK and Mary Ann KNIGHT
The family lived / farmed at “Higher Trelassick”
•   Catherine Huddy RETALLACK baptised 4 Jan 1829; Married to James STAPLE in 1852 Ladock
•   Mary RETALLACK 1830
•   Daniel RETALLACK 1831; emigrated to Australia in 1856
Bit of a gap here - so may be missing a child/ children that died as infant
•   James RETALLACK 1838; married to “Phoebe” (1871 census with 3 children)
•   John RETALLACK 1841
•   Charles RETALLACK 1843 married to Catherine HOOPER in 1866 Ladock
•   William RETALLACK 1846
•   Cornelius RETALLACK 1849 ; married to Emma CORNICK in 1869; died 1874 Truro age 25

1841 Census https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQBM-LFB
1851 Census https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGKN-XZW
1861 census  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7C6-K41
1871 census https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VFJ8-Y7G
In 1871 Mary Ann, the mother, is with the family of her son Cornelius. He dies in 1874 and Emma, his widow, remarries. I don’t know where mother Mary Ann goes to. I cannot see her in 1881 census.
I can see 2 possible deaths: 1883 in Redruth (age 73) or 1886 in Falmouth (age 75) – but it is possible that neither is right.

Thanks again, Neale1961!!!!

Thanks, Trish.
Catherine Bele and Francis Retallack are my direct ancestors.

Catherine 14 October 1774 is my direct ancestor Catherine Retallack. She had an illegitimate son, John Huddy Retallack, to her cousin Daniel Huddy (Junior). Daniel was born 15 Sep 1766.

Sarah 6 July 1777, is Catherine's sister, who also had an illegitimate son, James Huddy Retallack, to her cousin Daniel Huddy Junior. Daniel's will names both boys as his sons.

I have a lot of info on those generations of Huddy and Retallack, but I hit a brick wall with Mary Anne Knight wife of John Huddy Retallack. As you will see revealed elsewhere on this thread, she too was illegitimate and her name had spelling variation of 'Night'.  :o

Hi,
I am seeking information about Mary Ann Knight who married John Huddy Retallack at Ladock, Cornwall, on 7 October 1826. I have a lot of ancestor info on John, but Mary is a mystery. She is shown as 'My An Knight' in the England Marriages.
Thanks.

Your discovery of the marriage of a William Parkhill and Janet Miller on 3 November 1843 at Neilston is a bit of a shock. Especially if it is my William Parkhill (whose wife Jessie allegedly didn't die until 1848). Also John Parkhill was supposed to have been born to William and Jessie in 1847. The plot really does thicken.

Thanks for the Neilston link. I'd never heard of printfields and bleachfields before, so I had a bit of a surf around. Ended up at the Neilston WebCam site. Waited 30 minutes for something to happen. Must be the quietest street in Scotland. All was not lost, because the site's picture galleries gave me a really good idea of what the area is like.

G'day Gadget,

Electricity outage? Crikey, I've got worse - I've got a Memory Outage! I've been shuffling through some papers and came up with a couple of documents I'd forgotten I had. This is what I've got:

1. 'Schedule D' marriage record from Wodonga in the Colony of Victoria, 7 April 1879. John Parkhill marries Isabella Moon, John's details as follows:  John Parkhill, cabinet maker, age 27, born Greenock Scotland. Father: Willam Parkhill, carpenter. Mother:Jessie Parkhill maiden name Jessie Stewart. 'Marriage, by license, according to the rites of the Congregational Church'

2. Death Certificate. Leeton in State of New South Wales. 14 October 1919. John Parkhill, carpenter, male 70 years, born Paisley Scotland, 60 years in Victoria. Father: William Parkhill, carpenter. Mother: Janet [sirname unclear: Milla, Millar, Miller, but it will be that of his step-mother]. Buried by a minister of the Church of England.

These documents are in conflict as far as the year of his birth is concerned, maybe 1852, maybe 1849.

Hope this helps. I know a reasonable amount about John Parkhill's wife Isabella Moon. She was born in Australia. Her ancestors were from Inchture, Blair Athol and Longforgan. I can send you more details if you'd like them.

Thanks.
