The Common Room / Re: Rugby medal
« on: Wednesday 20 August 14 20:52 BST (UK)  »
Thank you all for the exciting information on Samuel Herbert(s)  Apparently the name seems to change in different generations. The ones we found originated in the Forest of Dean Gloucestershire, the name being "Herbert"  The story in the family is that when one of the parents of Samuel went to register him, the registrar added the "S" on.  Later generations dropped the "S".  At the moment the watch chain and medal have gone to be cleaned but as soon as it comes back I will post a picture.  Thanks once again.  Regards Jean Herbert

The Common Room / Rugby medal
« on: Wednesday 20 August 14 09:52 BST (UK)  »
After have a good clear out, we came across my husbands grandfather's watch chain and some kind of medal fastened on to it.  The medal is shaped like a shield and on the reverse side is engraved (Leeds FC (looks like championship) 1901-02) and the name S Herbert. (Samuel Herbert)  The fob chain is 9ct gold but not sure what ct the medallion is.  At the moment it is in the jewellers being cleaned and hope to get it back next week,  I have searched all over but cannot find anything about this medal.  My husband seems to think it may have something to do with one of the churches in Leeds which started up some kind of Football/Rugby team.  This (he says) was the forerunner of all the clubs in Leeds.  We would be grateful if anyone can shed some light on this object.  Regards Jean Herbert

The Ireland line are my  husband Roy Herbert's ancestors.  So far the earliest I have is James Ireland born abt 1771 West Hesterton Yorkshire.  I will willingly share my information with members of this extended family.  If anyone is interested, could you please send  me a private message with details of where to send this file.  I posted a message some time ago on this site if anyone gets confused.  Regards Jean Herbert

That's the one, many many thanks.  It has been driving me nuts, thought I was seeing things.  Now need to find out more about it and its history.  Grateful thanks to all who spent time searching for this elusive Chapel.

My husband has been in hospital for several weeks and travelling home on the 61 bus I keep noticing that the Medical Centre in the area is housed in a really old building with the name "The Old Chapel House.  I can find no reference to this lovely old house, which is sorely in need of renovation,  Does anyone know its history?  I believe the area was once known as "The Bank" where a lot of my ancestors live.  Thank you, Jean

« on: Saturday 07 June 14 14:26 BST (UK)  »
I just upgraded my Panasonic LumixDMC-FX555 to a Lumix TZ40.  The reason I upgraded was to benefit from the wi-fi facility.  I have been trying for two days now and cannot get passsed the "no shared folder found"  Could anyone guide me through this maze as I am getting ready to microwave it.  Thank you, Jean

Technical Help / Re: Sky Cloud Windows 8

Thank you gentlemen for your imput.  One Drive is not suitable for the action I need to put a picture on my cake forum.  There are about 500 ladies in this forum and most of them have to get  help turning the computer on and off, let alone accessing a picture which is not in front of them.  I have quite a large hard drive so I am going to deposit pictures of cakes etc in its own folder and leave the other stuff in One Drive for me to access on my tablet.

Now going to try and get my 2 year and 1 year old printers working on Win 8.1  The printers work but neither will scan, but that's another story.  Thanks again
