From time to time I look at a website that advertises houses for sale/rent, or gives sold prices.

Interesting to see what the current owners have done with the houses over the years! (And the current value of the houses)

Of course some have disappeared - some were bombed, and my grandparent's last home was demolished to make way for a new road scheme.

My experience also goes back some years.

From our original family tree covering 1620 to 1800s, we knew that at least one person was an apothecary in  London.

My sister attended a conference at the apothecary's hall (on a totally unrelated subject) and mentioned in passing to one of the guild's staff that I was tracing our family tree,  She was directed to an oil painting in the main meeting room - of our ancestor!

Jean Clarke m Herbert Stenton Rotherham q Dec 1944.

Comparing the handwriting, I would say that only the second "Stenton" is part of the amended record

The Common Room / Grant of Probate

Just obtained copy of probate and will for someone I am researching.

Two figures are given: gross value of the estate and net value.

I am assuming this is before and after tax. Could someone please clarify. Thank you.

(Relates to probate granted at High Court of Justice England and Wales)
