Hi There
A friend of mine works in the offices of the Anglican Cathedral   I will ask him to look up and see what he can find for us.  He found my Dad's baptism cert and I thought we were Methodists through and through  ;D

Hi Lidfam
I am hoping you can help me....
I have undertaken to trace the family of one of the Residents at our Old Age Home.  Unfortunately all she has is your Grandmother's married name
MILDRED ROSE LI(E)DBURY.
They left the UK by boat in 1909 for South Africa.
We   don't know when they were married, but a child was born to them while on board and this was my friend's mother.
She knows that they came from Wales and that is just about all.  Has no idea what her Grandfather's name was.
Sorry it is so vague, but would really appreciate some help here.

Hi Robert
Thanks for this lovely load of information!!
I have always hoped to find a real 'naughty' ancestor and it looks like I found him!!!  Although here in South Africa he was a notable man, helped for form a school for the children and grandchildren of the 1820 Settlers and like I mentioned fought in the wars of that time.
My son, Pierre, is called by his friend 'McLuckie' and when I phoned him to tell him about the smuggling he had a good old laugh!!!!
Is Kippen near Drymen?  My great grandmother had written all of this information down (many moons ago!) and she stated that William had been born and raised in Kippen.  On his grave it also states that he was born in Kippen.   But maybe it was just folklore...who knows?
will check in on your website later.
During all my searches William is definitely the only McLuckie mentioned that arrived in South Africa at that time.

thanks so much for this info.

Thanks so much for all your info.

Hi Vicki
Very good news thks.
Janet C (his first wife) their daughter Janet married a James Ward who was stationed in South Africa (Army) in 1806-1819.   Their eldest daughter Elizabeth Ward married William McLuckie these are my gr-gr grandparents.
How do you fit in?  Were your ancestors from the 1st or 2nd marraige?  Are you in New Zealand?
Thks for replying.....this has been my brick wall for over 25 years and I am rather excited that I now know a bit more on this side of the family......
Hoping to hear from you soooooon

Hi Osprey
Not the same query, but could you look up JAMES WARD for me? he was stationed at the Cape from 1806-1819 and opted to stay.

Hi Althea
thank you so much for that link.  Cathy had obviously put the same request on a number of boards. I had looked at the one on genform.
Thanks so much for your interest in this I do hope I find Cathy or her family sometime.
Once again, thankyou

Thought I would put a bit more info on here.

Correction and update to my own posting! Donald was christened 12 Apr 1725 at Luss, son of Alexander McNeill and Mary Currie. Donald married Margaret McFarlane and had a son Alexander, who married (1st)Janet Colquohoun 12 June 1772 and (2nd) Jean McFarlane 10 Mar 1785. From the 2nd marriage, son James married Anne McFarlane. They had eight children and moved to NZ.

Janet Colquohoun 12 June 1772 -  I am related to Janet Colquohoun in other words the first marraige.
Hoping to hear from someone/anyone soon  ;)
