Thank you ALAMO2008 for explaining.  I've learnt something new!  I have been researching war memorials for several years now and had no idea of this.  Thank you.

THANK YOU so much AllanUK and everyone who has tried to help.  I hope now I can add him to Find-A-Grave.

Thank you to everyone who has replied.  Sorry if I have been vague.  I have spent the last few years researching the men named on the St. George in the East Church war memorial.  I am trying to add them to Find-A-Grave but my entry for Henry has been rejected - because the owner believes someone from St George's would not have served with Notts & Derby - they believe it would have served with a local regiment.  From my experience this is rubbish. I wanted to find the actual pension details on Fold3 as this would show his NOK's address.

I assumed (probably wrongly) that all soldiers would have had money paid to a beneficiary/relative etc but I guess not.

Soldiers effects gives the name of his father, Frederick (his mother died 1914); the best match for his father's death is 1948.

I'm wondering if the pension records are incomplete;

Bit of a long shot but I'm researching:

L/Cpl. 94424 H.J. Clapton, 17th Bn., Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
born Wapping, residence St. Georges, enlisted Stepney

He died of wounds on 2.1.1918 and soldiers effects gives his father's name as Frederick.  I cannot seem to find a pension record on Fold3 giving his father's address - is anyone else able to take a look?

The family were living in St. George in the East at the time but the street address would be great to find,.

London and Middlesex / Re: 1871 census - help with transcription

Thank you - what a strange thing to write though.  He's also 4yrs old on this census; can't find anything on subsequent census.  His brother entered an asylum so I was wondering if it could be a medical condition - very odd.  Thank you both very much,

Hoping someone can tell me what this word says.  It's a snip from the 1871 census for the Brown family.  The snip is taken from the last column (under Deaf & Dumb, Blind etc)

Does anyone know what FPH stands for? It's in the Observations column.  Other entries in the column vary from 'paralysed', 'deserted' to 'dislocated hip'.  But there are several with FPH.

The record is for Bromley House, Stepney.
