Hi Anne,
PRONI do not hold BMD's. The place you need is The General Register Office of Northern Ireland (GRONI). If you follow this link;

http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/archive-for-family-and-local-history

you will find links to all the info you need to know, costs etc, before going to GRONI. You should make an appointment to use the research rooms computers because there are limited spaces available. The dates you wanted to search wouldn't be a problem either.

Tony

ps there is also a link to the new(ish) online search.

Hi cocksie,
this is a link to the 1901 census entry;

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/Glenkeen/Ballyrogan/1520108/

if you go back to the 1911 entry a lucky mistake was made on the form. Bridget has filled in " the years married column" as married 20 years, then stroked out. This was only to be filled out for an ongoing marriage, bridget was a widow at this stage, so it gives a guide for a marriage as 1891.

Down / Re: Thomas Fegan National School teacher
« on: Sunday 13 April 14 12:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi,   I can tell you when Master Fegan died;

http://applications.proni.gov.uk/DCAL_PRONI_WillsCalendar/willsSearchResultsDetails.aspx

this is his probate:- Fegan Thomas of Rostrevor county Down retired national school teacher died 3 June 1929 Probate Belfast 22 September to Thomas Doyle farmer. Effects £21.

He was 67 at time of death,retired national school teacher, married and his address was given as Syenite Place, Rostrevor. ( Syenite place can still be found on google maps). Cause of death involved influenza but I cant make out the rest of it.

The informant, present at death, is hard to read. It's "something" P. Fegan,brother, Mayobridge County Down. What I "believe" it says, though I could be wrong here, is Pierce P. Fegan because there was a national school teacher of that name in Mayobridge who died in 1937.
Hope it helps,
Tony

This is a huge step forward for anyone researching in Northern Ireland. Having said that, I can see why people are getting annoyed with it.

If you don't know the exact address the search page isn't exactly obvious the first time you look for it; they aren't exactly shouting about it from the rooftops of Belfast!

I can also understand the complaint about not being able to save the image that you have just paid for. A tip for anyone who wants to save an image- take a photo of it with your phone or camera.

I bought £10 worth of credits and used it to buy death cert images. I don't think I would have bought these certs the normal way.

If you consider the position we were in before then this is a great improvement albeit not exactly user friendly!

Cell, keep at it because it will be worth it at the end of the day.

mmcc,
         I cannot find your 40 year old John Capper in Belfast on the 1911 census!!

Regards

If this is the right one then the surname is spelt CAPPA.

Armagh / Re: Where is/was Lisera [sic?] in Co. Armagh
« on: Sunday 28 February 10 14:50 GMT (UK)  »
It could be Lissaraw. There are 2 townlands with that name; in Creggan parish and Killevy parish. In general terms, if you were looking for them on a map, then Creggan would be Crossmaglen and Killevy would be Newry.

Armagh / Re: Upper Killeavy - Birth to Christening

I'm wondering if children born in Ireland at about this time would typically be christened a year or two after birth.

It wouldn't be normal Chris. A baptism would have happened a day or two after the birth; basically as soon as possible.

Ireland Resources / Re: Tips for searching Irish BMD civil registrations

When you are typing in the location box just type Ireland and wait until the drop down box comes up, then click on Ireland, after that you can then use the filters to narrow down the search.

Dont know why it does it, always has, but if you type Ireland and then click search it comes up with virtually nothing.
