Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Re: Lithuathain relative.
« on: Thursday 23 May 24 23:35 BST (UK)  »
Thank you all for your replies. I am not so fast at researching so the leads are all very valuable to me. I found the first lot of info on Henry (Dutch Harry) Wixon on another site.

My mother before she passed away some years ago now, mentioned the name but was unsure if Wicks Wix or WIXON or similar sounding.

When I found that my grandad John Duffy was the son of John Duffy and Mary Duffey (WIXON)

The name Duffey with an E could possibly be a typo or not.

Found Mary Duffey WIXON was the daughter Henry (Dutch Harry) Wixon and mother Tiaki Kaika Emma Wixon (Ngai Tahu, Maori side of the family). Sadly Ngai Tahu NZ didn't reply to me.

This is where I read about Henry Wixon from Lithuania. This is where my search ended.

I will look into all the leads you have all sent. With much thanks from Shane in NZ.

Found the name WIXON in the family

No records of when arriving in New Zealand or where he emigrated from.

He was born Henry Wixon known as (Dutch Harry) Jan 01 1803 born Klaipeda Klaipedos miesto savivaldybe Kliapeda, Country Lithuania.

Found him buried later in Waimate NZ Old Cemetery June 16 1888.

Couldn't make a connection with Lithuania or when he arrived in NZ.

Any hints or possibilities to follow up on.

Thank you all from Shane in NZ.

Billy Mitchell So thankful to have read your message. Such a great family connection. It's been so difficult to get a copy of The Red Headed Rebel in NZ. I was only granted a short time from our University through then a student friend who was attending. The laws are quite demanding and confusing to a person like me when it comes to copyrights. Thank you William F Mitchell.

The once owner was a ships surgeon then a doctor and musician He meet many people on his travels and had them sign his Shakespeare's Birthday Book. When and why he must have just liked them.
Yes it would be easier to send and email address through a private message here. As I need to take a photo and down load it to my lap top. If that's ok Thanks Shane.
