Their son William Thomas Ponter ( 1862-1899) Giants Grave , died Glasgow.  Their daughter Elizabeth Ponter (1895-1963), married William Henderson Petrie ( 1893-1967)- my  grandparents

Hi. I also gave it a try and couldn’t find it. I don’t think they were catholic either
Now,  when their son Joseph Whitten married in Glasgow they married in the English Episcopal Church, and then eventually Joseph and his brother just moved to Newcastle
At one time he and all his sons were in Newcastle and there are records for Whittens in Newcastle, so I’m wondering if perhaps the journey  wasn’t so much Ireland, Scotland England it was actually England Ireland, Scotland, England. Who knows

Armagh / Whitten(on) family from Tandragee
« on: Tuesday 16 April 24 19:37 BST (UK)  »
Hello: its been years since I posted on here.  I have a family of Whittens(on) from this Tandragee.  Joseph married to Eliza Greenaway( no dates) . their sons Joseph ( 1857-1920), Thomas (1851). Joseph married Jane Irvine Martin in Glasgow in 1878.  Son  George was born in Newcastle England , Charles, Thomas, John and Joseph were all born in Partick Glasgow.  Thomas married Elizabeth Cullen but moved to Newcastle. Joseph eventually left his wife and also moved to Newcastle where he married a woman named Mary. I saw a  James Greenaway living with Joseph and Jane in 1871 on the census. but he was listed as a lodger. I'm assuming he was a nephew or a cousin. I'm wondering if anyone else has Greenaway or Whitten(on) in their research so I can  go farther back.  Thanks . Donna

Hi all. I’ve noticed a few posts talking about how the dates were wrong
When reading an OPR, read  carefully. Most of the time they only record a baptism record not a birth record.  So if dates are out check if they mention the birth.  For example ,I have come across records that say “John Smith baptised today aged five “ I even saw one entry they were aged 14! Some entries have said baptised today born such and such a date.
So if you are totally relying on dates and looking for that kid who was baptised when he was 14 ,the dates would be way out.
It is the same with marriage; usually they post the banns   Occasionally,  they write in the actual wedding date.
