Sussex / COOK family from Sussex - no idea where to look
« on: Thursday 03 July 14 12:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone
I am looking for some suggestions to find a family by the name of COOK, apparently from Sussex.  They arrived in Western Australia in 1830.  Mr Henry COOK and wife, name unknown.  Three supposedly adult sons Henry, Thomas George, William.  Thomas George born c1816.  Also three children Phillip, Eliza and Mary Ann.  Phillip born c1826 and Eliza c1817.  Arrived WA on the Rockingham.
I have tried several of the paid sites to search for them but with such common names it is proving very difficult.  Would appreciate any suggestions of Sussex specific search places.  I have unconfirmed information that Phillip was born in Brighton.
Appreciate any help
Kind regards
Mackaa

Hi everyone
Does anyone have super duper software that could enhance the words under the black line.  Am interested in entry # 1220.  I can read it all apart from age and place of birth of mother.  I think the age is 25 years.
The family are a bit sensitive so would appreciate you not replying back with her name as I can decipher that bit with the adendum in the margin.
Appreciate your help
Cheers

« on: Wednesday 26 March 14 20:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
I have this photograph and postcard very poor quality as it is a photocopy only.  I do not have access to the original.  I can read a lot of the words but having trouble with some.  Can anyone read it all for me please.  I would also like to date the photograph.
TIA
OK I am having real problems attaching this.  It is a JPG but is 23 MB in size.  How do I make it small enough to post here?

Is anyone going to Wellington Archives this week?  I need this file but unfortunately need it quite quickly as I have a deadline of a dear friend's 80th birthday.
http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?code=23720314

It says it is restricted but it is available - this is what the [use MICRO U 5476] stands for.  They told me it could still be photographed.

Much appreciated if anyone can do this and happy to return the favour in Auckland anytime.

Australia / PARKADE/PARKSIDE Lunatic Asylum
« on: Sunday 09 March 14 00:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone
I found an article in Trove giving a return of persons who died in the Parkade Lunatic Asylum during the half year ended December 31, 1908.  I am interested in one of the names - Harriet BUTLER a 65.
Does anyone know if there are records available for this place?
TIA

ETA I think it should be Parkside not Parkade

There should be two more births according to information I have - Ada Irene circa 1877 and Gertrude Caroline circa 1878.  I presume there should also be a death for Gertrude born 1874.

I am most interested in Ada Irene - any help finding her birth would be appreciated.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Do you have any famous NZ'ers in your family?
« on: Friday 10 May 13 12:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone
If you don't know already I am the coordinator for the School's only day at the Family History Fair on 2nd August this year. The Fair runs from the afternoon of 2nd August until Sunday 4th August - don't miss it !!

A part of the school's programme is a competition for students to produce a poster of their families. We also want to display some trees from famous New Zealanders - especially people that our current Youth look up to. This is a great way to get our youth involved in Genealogy and Family History.

So how can you help? Do you have anyone in your family that our students would look up to? Can you use some family influence to allow us to prepare a simple chart about their family history? This would really help me to avoid going through all the media and promotion companies.

If you think you can help many of you know how to contact me - or send me a message via the Family History Fair 2013 website - look for Schools and Melanie Middleton. I would really appreciate any help you can offer.

Regards
Melanie

Australia / Change of surname circa 1886 to 1889 WA
« on: Tuesday 23 April 13 07:02 BST (UK)  »
I have an ancestor who changed her surname between 1886 and 1889.  I am trying to find official records that would confirm this.  I have looked at WA BDM but any change of name information does not mention historical records.  Does anyone have experience with this? Or can point me in the right direction?

Catherine or Katherine MOUNTAIN born circa 1849
Married 1867 Henry MARNHAM (WA BDM 1867/2520)
Married 1886 Patrick AH FAH (WA BDM 1886/6386)

Daughter Matilda Maud AH FAH born 16 Aug 1887 (WA BDM 1887/1142) and died age 17 as Maudie BROWN (WA BDM 1904/2546)
Another possible child Frederick William BROWN born 1889 (WA BDM 1889/613) died aged one month old (WA BDM 1889/247) - parents named as father Patrick and mother Kate MANTON

Catherine/Katherine died 28 Dec 1927 as Katherine BROWN (WA BDM 1928/62)
Patrick died 1909 as Patrick BROWN (WA BDM 1909/47)

Any help much appreciated
Melanie
