I am looking for further information and advice on how I could trace the parents/family of my great grandmother Phoebe Davis, who was a flower hawker/gypsy.
Phoebe was born on the 31st March 1872, but it is unknown where, she had stated to the Wandsworth workhouse when she arrived there on the 7th April 1899 that her parents were gypsies and had lived in caravans, never having a fixed home that she can remember.
In 1893 Phoebe had given birth to child (male) on Hastings Heath (?) which sadly died at the age of three weeks. It was after this she ran away from home to be with her eldest sister.
On the 6th May 1899 Phoebe gave birth to her son John Hughes Davis at the workhouse in Wandsworth. On her sons birth certificate Phoebe stated that she was a flower hawker and gave her address as 11, Point Pleasant, Wandsworth, London, a lodging house. Phoebe left the Wandsworth workhouse on the 20th May 1899, leaving her newly born son behind, and I have not been able to trace any further information about her or find her on any census returns.
Any help/imformation would be greatly appreciated.
