England / James BAILEY m Isabel ? c1780
« on: Monday 21 January 08 10:55 GMT (UK)  »
James and Isabel BAILEY lived at Taunton, Somerset from 1800 until Isabel's death in 1813, at the age of 49.  The couple were perfumers but their marriage is not listed in the indexes for Somerset or Devon.  Their son, William, was said to have been born in Taunton c1784 but I have found no baptism record.

Can anyone lend a clue as to when James and Isabel were married and what Isabel's surname was?

Europe / BAILEY to London c1855

Immigrants? I'm not sure ...

Jane Manning BAILEY was born in England and left for Tasmania, Australia with her new husband, James.  About 1854/55 she returned to England with her six children, settling in London.  It is likely the captain of the return voyage was Capt William Waymouth BRANSCOMBE and the ship the 'Grecian Queen'.

Any suggestions of how to find this voyage and arrival?

Hi there

Can anyone find the following four brothers' arrival in NZ?

William Lisson BAILEY, c1857
James Alexander BAILEY, c1857
Walter Ambrose Lucas BAILEY, c1860
Henry George BAILEY, c1872

The first three went goldmining so they may have arrived in the South Island.  Henry settled in the North Island.

Devon Completed Lookup Requests / Ann BAILEY / PANNELL - 1861
« on: Friday 14 July 06 11:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi there

This is a long shot!!!!

I recently found out that my 3xgr-grandfather had a half-sister.  Here is all I know:

Sarah MATTHEWS married Joseph PANNELL at Cullompton, Devon in 1804.  They had a daughter, Ann in 1806, also at Cullompton.

In 1807 Joseph died and Sarah married William BAILEY the following year at Cullompton and they had one son, James.

In 1833 James and his new wife left for Tasmania and it is possible that Ann went with them as there was a "Miss Bailey" in the passenger list.  However, the family returned to London in 1854.

That is all I can share, I'm afraid.  Is some kind person willing to take up the challenge of trying to find Ann in the 1861?  We are looking for Ann BAILEY or PANNELL (assuming she did not marry), born Cullompton in 1806 (ie about 55.)

Cheers

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1861 census - Ann Bailey

Hi there

WARNING - this is a loooooong shot!

I've just discovered my 3xg-grandfather had a half sister.  These are all the details I have:

Ann PANNELL b. Cullompton, Devon 27 June 1806.

Ann's mother married William BAILEY so it is possible she was known as Ann BAILEY.

It is also possible that she went to Australia with my 3xg-grandfather (a Miss Bailey on the ship's list), but his family returned to London in 1854.

Are there any kind researchers up to the challenge of finding Ann BAILEY / PANNELL, b 1806???

Many thanks

Doug

Hi there

Can anyone locate William MADDER, bricklayer of Norfolk, in Hackney in the 1871 census?  He may have been (newly) married to Lucy FORDHAM.
