Cork / Birth details for John Burke
« on: Thursday 14 August 08 17:12 BST (UK)  »

Looking for the birth of John Burke, around 1830. Father was William Burke.

The 1891 Census (UK) says he was born in Cork. Not in 1881 Census so assume he left Ireland around this time.

Any help would be appreciated.

The Common Room / Parish Record - Marriage
« on: Thursday 24 January 08 11:00 GMT (UK)  »
OK, todays silly question!

I have a copy of a marriage entry that took place in 1812. The grooms entry says "Charles Turner of the Parish of Kerry...". Now, does this mean he was born in Kerry or just living there at the time of the marriage??

Completed Census Requests / William(s) Griffiths - COMPLETED
« on: Friday 28 December 07 15:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

I've reached a brick wall. Can anyone help??

My G GM was Elizabeth Turner nee Griffiths and was born 27/5/1850 to William and Mary (nee Powell) Turner. On her birth certificate William Griffiths is a lock-keeper at Llanhamlach.

The 1851 Census shows them at Llanhamlach with his wife Mary, Elizabeth and another daughter called Ann. William is transcribed as Williams. William is the lock-keeper where I know he remained until 1858.

I cannot find them anywhere in the 1861 Census.

In 1871, Elizabeth is a servant in St John's Cardiff and marries 24/6/1871. William was at the wedding as he signs as a witness. His occupation is stated as a gardener. However I cannot find him on the 1871 Census either.

My first thought is that Mary died between 1851 and 1861 and William remarried. In the 1861 Census there is a William married to a Jane and he is a "Boatman". There are 2 deaths of Mary Griffiths in Brecknock between these dates but neither is the right one.

I've run out of ideas. To not be in one census is OK but to not be in two is down-right careless!!

Hi All

Does anyone have any local knowledge, or could point me in the right direction, of the canal at Llanfrynach/Llanhamlach? My ggg gf was a lockeeper there at the time of his daughters marriage in 1851.

Hi

Can anyone help find a marriage of Robert Connett/Cunnett (b abt 1811) to Mary (b abt 1817)? In the 1851 census Robert's birthplace is given as Honiton whilst Mary's is given as Awliscombe. They were living at Wolson Village, Awliscombe at the time. Their first child appears to have been born 14th Apr 1839 so I presume they were married by then.

Have searched the BMD's at GRO with no luck and also asked the Devon FHS for a list of pre 1837 marriages.

Many thanks.

Montgomeryshire Lookup Requests / Richard Turner
« on: Sunday 29 July 07 14:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm looking for the birth of Richard Turner c1849, the son of Richard Turner c1821 and Mary Watkins c1827.

The census show that Richard Turner jnr was born in Llanishan, Cardiff but I cannot find him in the BMD. I can find birth records in Montgomery.

Richard Turner snr came from Bettws and his marriage in 1846 showed him as a farmer. This suggests that he was probably still in Bettws(?) and not Llanishan at this time. Mary came from Treveglas.

Does anyone have any baptism records for Bettws that would help??

Many thanks.

Devon Lookup Requests / Marriage - Robert CONNETT
« on: Saturday 28 July 07 15:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm looking for the marriage of Robert Connett of Honiton (born c1811, father Henry) to Mary of Awliscombe (born c1817). First child Elizabeth was born 14th Apr 1839.

I have looked at all marriage sheets from 1837 to 1840 and had a search done by the DFHS for marriages pre-1837 with no luck.

Has anyone any ideas?
