Dorset / Higgins of Trent
« on: Saturday 20 June 20 22:26 BST (UK)  »
I have been unable to find when and where in 1917 George Higgins died. Also was he buried at Trent. I think it very likely. However he was a policeman and lived for many years at Tatworth, Somerset where his wife and a couple of their children were buried.

Thank you for any help. It appears the OPC for Trent has retired.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Collins Flicker Foot
« on: Wednesday 01 January 20 19:39 GMT (UK)  »
Annie Flicker was the 2nd wife of George Foot. She had a son John Flicker before that marriage. John was in the Royal Navy and married Annie L Lyons in Up Cerne in 1921. It appears they had a daughter * in 1925 at Portsmouth, who married * in 1945. It appears they had 2 daughters in Portsmouth, *in 1949 and * 1955.

I know little of Annie Flicker and have never seen a photograph of her and I am hoping that if I can make contact with her daughters then the might just be able to provide some family info.

I have so far drawn a blank with trying to find them and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

United States of America / Charles P Higgins
« on: Thursday 28 November 19 22:03 GMT (UK)  »
Charles Paul Higgins was born in Crewkerne, Somerset, England in 1863. He was baptised at Tatworth, Somerset on the Ist November 1866 with my great grandmother Bessie Higgins. Their father, George Higgins was a policeman at Tatworth, Somerset, where the family lived. Their mother was Charlotte (nee Ring).

Charles worked as a solicitors clerk at near by Chard and witnessed a will on the 16th July 1883.

Then it appears he vanishes. My grandmother told me when I was young that he drowned but being a child I did not ask any more.

One of his siblings Mary Jane Higgins (a ladys maid) later married a Mr Brown and lived in the Seattle region. A postcard gives the address as Route3, 145 Seattle.

The siblings had an older brother named George Higgins who died in 1889. At the inquest it mentioned that some 4 years earlier he was visited by a brother who came from America. If accurate I feel this would have to be Charles.

I have photographs and other bits and pieces regarding the Higgins family but nothing on Charles. I think it highly likely that he drowned when he was a young man. I have checked parish records at Tatworth, newspaper and death records and have had no joy. I haven't found him on a ship. It is possible he worked his passage.

I can not find anything else about Charles and any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Mark

Monmouthshire / Tredegar Cottages
« on: Monday 28 October 19 17:16 GMT (UK)  »
This entry is connected to the murder and suicide committed by George Higgins on the outskirts of Tredegar in May 1889.
The crime scene was a row of 4 squalid run down cottages at Tanybont on the eastern side of Tredegar that had been turned into 8 dwellings. They were close to Catholic Schools and 500/600 yards from the Town Clock.
I wonder if anyone could advise me if there is a picture of the cottages. Thanks Mark

Monmouthshire / Tredegar/Bedelty burial of George Higgings
« on: Saturday 26 October 19 16:52 BST (UK)  »
A distant relative George Higgins committed a murder and died at the scene of the crime near Tredegar in May 1889. I am trying to discover where he was buried. Although the inquest found him guilty he probably was buried locally. As he killed himself he is unlikely at that time to be buried in a church. Any help greatly appreciated.

« on: Monday 03 December 18 19:26 GMT (UK)  »
Later generations of my 'Foot' family lived at East Coker but through my grandmother's Higgins family there is an Edward Higgins who married Elizabeth Harris in Bradford Abbas in Dorset approx 10 miles away in 1802. He gives his residence address as East Coker. I have no other details of Edward and would welcome any help. Many thanks Mark

Dorset / George Higgins and Jane Paul of Bradford Abbas married 1834
« on: Tuesday 27 November 18 09:14 GMT (UK)  »
In Bradford Abbas there have been a number of George Higgins from the same family. I believe I have the children of George married to Jane but would welcome an experts opinion.
Eliza 1835
Charles 1840
Mary Ann 1844
James 1847
William 1853-1853
Ellen 1851?
William 1854
Elizabeth 1857-1857?
John 1861
Jane 1858
With such a large family and with some early deaths, I may be missing some others? Also some of the dates may be baptism or census estimates. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have always been pleasantly surprised with the enthusiasm and knowledge and skill of your researchers.
Many thanks

Dorset / Dorset Army Deserter Frank Foot
« on: Monday 26 November 18 21:45 GMT (UK)  »
Frank Foot was born in 1889 at Up Cerne. The family understand that he deserted the army and moved to New Zealand. During WW1 he signed up with the  NZ navy and it understood he fought at the Battle of Jutland. I am trying to prove if he deserted or if it is just a family rumour.

Many thanks for any help,

Mark
