London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / John and Mary O'Connell in Hackney 1851
« on: Monday 20 February 12 20:13 GMT (UK)  »
Have good family records of John O'Connell b. abt 1819 Cork Ireland and wife Mary b.abt 1828 Cork Ireland (her name on their 4 sons birth certs Mary Dinse 1854, Demsea 1856, Dimpsey 1859,& Dimsey1862) from 1861 onwards in hackney.
They were in Bells Yard, Grove passage, Jerusalem gardens & Baxter St respectively from 1854 onwards.
Can't find them in 1851 or 1841.  It's possible they weren't married or together of course but would appreciate any help in finding them.

Armed Forces / O'Connells in The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders
« on: Monday 20 February 12 08:23 GMT (UK)  »
Our family story is grandfather John O'Connell b1889 and his brother Patrick b 1885 joined the A&S Highlanders as boy soldiers then went on and served in the 1st World War. I live in New Zealand but on a visit to the Nat'l Archives in the UK I found their war service medal records, both with the A&SH (John No 1194 with the 7th Btn, Patrick No 9568 with the 2nd Btn) and also an attestation for Patrick (WO96/1267//318 who joined as Private 8048 7th Btn Rifle Brigade in 1904 and shortly after moved to the 17th Lancers). I couldn't find an attestation for John and I can't find when either of them moved to the A&S Highlanders.
Can someone help with how I might do this from my "remote" location?
I'm also intrigued to know what determined these moves between different Brigades - were they "feeder" units for the A&SH or did soldiers request moves.
Thanks Ian

Suffolk / Henry FROST Family in Mildenhall Sufolk
« on: Monday 15 August 11 05:40 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the family of Henry Frost in the early 1800s in Midenhall Suffolk.
I know his son Robert was born there in about 1825 but do not have the birth cert. Robert married Eliza Payn in London in 1846 and father Henry was a salesman.
Henry's daughter Sarah was born in Suffolk (not sure about Mildenhall) in about 1820 and her marriage cert to Henry Olive in 1843 shows father Henry was a Bird Fancier.
Neither marriage cert shows Henry as deceased so he should be somewhere in the 1841 census records but I can't find him.
I'm hoping Parish Records from Mildenhall might give me birth details and leads to Henry's wife as well.
I'm in New Zealand and wondering if I can get those records on line? If not I would really appreciate some local help.
