Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Possible marriage in St Margarets, Leicester.
« on: Wednesday 20 August 14 15:15 BST (UK)  »
In FreeBMD, Sep Q 1849, Leicester 15 169, 8 people are listed for the marriages.  I think these marriages took place in St Margarets, Leicester, and I am trying to find out who Joseph Brown married (ideally Mary Brown) in which case it would be worth getting the cert.

Failing that is there any other way I can work out who married who?

Nottinghamshire / Sneinton Baptism
« on: Wednesday 13 August 14 22:02 BST (UK)  »

On 25 Feb 1883 in St Alban Church, Sneinton, Thomas Johnson was baptised, according to FreeREg. His parents were named as Alfred and Martha Ann Johnson.  Would there be any more information available, such as his dob - I think he may have been born in 1875, as an illegitimate child to Martha Ann Johnson, and that Alfred may not actually be his father.

Thanks

Europe / Death at Sea - mediterranean.
« on: Tuesday 03 June 14 16:15 BST (UK)  »
Hope this is the right place to put this.  My GGGrandfather died at sea in 1900, sailing between Egypt and Genoa, Italy.  The ship was Dutch registered and he was a Dutch National.  Where (if anywhere) would the death be registered?

Thanks

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Look up St Michaels, Bristol.
« on: Friday 31 January 14 14:46 GMT (UK)  »

William Hiles married Dorothy Poole in St Michaels, Bristol on 28th May 1793.  As there are a couple of Williams that could fit the bill, I was wondering if someone could have a look at the original record and see if there is a home parish listed for William.

A parish for Dorothy would be a bonus, as I have no idea where she is from!

Hiles was quite often spelled as Iles, and sometimes Isles.

Many thanks.

Europe / help with Dutch titles

One of my lot who was Dutch, was referred to, both while alive and when he died as "meester".  Would this refer to an academic qualification or possibly an award from somewhere. he was born in 1847, died in 1910.

Thanks

Other Countries / Death at Sea - Would it have been registered anywhere.
« on: Saturday 19 January 13 15:55 GMT (UK)  »
I recently found out my Great Grandfather died at sea in 1900.  He was a Dutch National who lived in Indonesia, and was travelling to the Netherlands.  He had left Batavia on the SS Prins Alexander on 13th June 1900, the ship arrived at Genoa on 10th July 1900.  He had evidently died on 5th July, which I think was somewhere around Suez/Mediterranean.

So where would I be likely to find (if at all) any report/registration of this?

Thanks

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Leicester deaths
« on: Monday 23 April 12 17:48 BST (UK)  »

On the IGI there is an entry for the death of Catherine Woolley on 9 July 1833, married to Edward Woolley.  Is there any way of finding out her age - I'm hoping it would be about 65.  Also there is a death entry for Edward Woolley in Sep Quarter 1846 - could this be her husband, if so he should be about 80 years old.

Thanks

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Leicester marriage
« on: Monday 23 April 12 16:29 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the marriage of Thomas Brown to Ann sometime in Leicester, around late 1780's.  I think they had a son Thomas in 1789, and another, William in 1791, but I am not sure if Thomas was their first child.  Both of these sons were baptised at All Saints.  I have the baptism CD for Leicester, and Thomas and Ann Brown had children from 1770, through to 1809, but I'm sure it must be at least 2 different couples - if not they should go in the Guinness book of Records!

Many thanks,

Linda

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Meadows in Paston
« on: Wednesday 27 October 10 17:30 BST (UK)  »
I have found a submitted entry in IGI for Thomas Meadows, baptised 3 Jan 1796, parents John Meadows and Mary, in Paston, Northants.  Could someone possibly confirm this entry for me?

Also is there any trace of a marriage between John and Mary - they started having children in 1788, so presumably were married around that date.

Many thanks.

Linda
