Antrim / Gillespie family Ballylinney - Births & deaths mid 19thc
« on: Tuesday 27 October 09 14:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,

This family are Presbyterian and I've had some success with records of marriages and baptisms in Ballylinney and Kilbride Pres Churches from about 1890's on wards. However can't find anything in these churches prior to this. Have information from headstone inscriptions in Old Ballylinney and Griffiths that indicate that the Gillespies were definitely in Ballylinney prior to 1890's. I was wondering is it possible that for inheritance reasons they might have used Cof I - and if so what Church(es) may they have used.

Thanks

Hi Rootschatters,

Would a death certificate issued in Co Antrim within the first 2 decades of the 20thc give a married womans maiden name?

Many thanks

Hi Rootschatters,

I'm relatively new to family research, about a year and a half.

My descendent's, so far, are almost exclusively based in Counties Antrims and Londonderry, with a few emigrating to North American and Australia.

I would really appreciate your opinions on whether it would be of any benefit to subscribe to Ancestry, and if so what option would be best.

Many thanks

Antrim / Russell family Ballyrobert, Templepatrick mid 19thc
« on: Wednesday 26 August 09 18:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,

I'm hoping that someone out there may have this family in their FT.

My GGGrandmother Ellen Russell bc 1849 married Joseph laird of Ballygallagh, near Ballyclare. Her father was named James and is shown on the marriage cert as a farmer from Ballyrobert. Ellen and Joseph married on 19/8/1874 at Rosemary St Non Sub Pres (the Lairds were of this denomination). The children of Ellen and Jos. were: James c1875; Mary c1878; Nancy(Agnes) c1879; Amelia c1882; Eliza c1884; and Mary c1887.

Ellen had a sister Mary Frances Russell bc 1851 who married James Speer(s) at Templepatrick Pres Church on 2/9/1880. Children: Hugh 1882; Margaret 1883; Mary Jane 1885; Gordon 1887; James 1890; Margaret 1891.

Does any of this ring any bells.

Many thanks

Antrim / Islandcarragh North (Taggart & Sloan)
« on: Thursday 30 July 09 20:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,

I've been able to place my GGGrand Parents, Robert Taggart (c1820 - 1903) and Martha, nee Sloan ( 1832 - 1919) to a small farm at Islandcarragh North. The farm was 20 acres. Robert left a will leaving his farm to Martha and asking that the family clear the mortgages held by Mr John Sterling.

I've found Martha aged 77 living with her youngest son Samuel Henry Taggart and his family on the 1911 census. There are only 5 properties listed in Islandcarragh North townland, and Martha Taggart is shown as the "landlord" of the family home.

My question is how do I find out where this farm was?

I've driven around the area  - the Carragh Road, Revallagh, Ballyrock and Ballywatt  etc but would be delighted if I could pin down where this small farm was.

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Rootschatters,

I'm hoping to find the newspaper death notices for my G G Granparents, they died at Islandcarragh, district of Bushmills in 1903 and 1919 and were Presbyterian/C of I. Should I be looking in the Coleraine Chronicle? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

US Lookup Requests / Taggart/Maxwell marriage
« on: Friday 08 May 09 15:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I've come across a marriage on the IGI of William Taggart of Co Antrim - parents Robert Taggart and Martha Sloan to Isabelle Maxwell of Leitrim Ireland - parents Alexander Maxwell and Jane Robinson. Marriage date 28/2/1906 in Manhattan. I think that William is an ancestor and was wondering if their marriage cert would give any more detail ie the age of couples etc.

Many thanks

Margaret
