Denbighshire Lookup Requests / Ruabon Parish Hannaby
« on: Thursday 03 June 10 16:30 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I wonder whether anyone can help me find a connection between 2 John Hanaby/Hannaby families in the Rhos/Johnstown areas please?

First John Hannaby was born around 1823, and married Sarah Price in Ruabon district in 1848. they had 2 sons John and Thomas before Sarah died. John remarried Mary Roberts in 1861 and went on to have several more children.

The other John Hannaby was born in 1819 and married Hannah  Jones at St Mary’s Church, Ruabon in 1842. Their children were:
Joseph born 1847 married Ann Morgan in 1872.
Daniel born 1849 but died 1856
John born 1853

I wonder whether John 1823 and John 1819 could be related, maybe cousins?

Many thanks
Morgan

Denbighshire Lookup Requests / St Chad's Holt PR - Bithell
« on: Wednesday 02 June 10 21:24 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Job Bithell's mother was Phoebe Bithell, christened 11th July 1784 at St Chad's Church, Holt, daughter of Thomas and Mary Bithell.

Previous post re Job Bithell:

Please can someone look up a marriage of Thomas Bithell and Mary ? and whether Phoebe has any brothers or sisters? The Farndon PRs are on the new LDS site, but Holt doesn't seem to be so well covered.

 :)
Many thanks

Hello

Not sure whether this marriage may have taken place at Llanarthney (as that is where the Bride lived and was christened), or perhaps Llanon, but definitely East Carmarthenshire (so Carmarthen or Llanelly district)

John Williams born about 1884
Margaretta Davies born about 1883 Cefn Abbey Llanarthney. Her father's name was Herbert but he died before she was born. I know she worked in Post Office in 1901, probably Llanarthney.

I know a lot about Margaretta's family but very little about John except that I think he died about 1921. They lived in Upper Tumble after their marriage.

Thanks very much for any information

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Dafydd William the Hymn Writer
« on: Thursday 20 May 10 02:21 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I have read a few articles about Dafydd William the Welsh hymn writer (1720-94) and know the story of how he wrote the famous Welsh hymn "Yn y dyfroedd mawr ar tonnau" whilst sheltering in the porch of St Teilo Church on the marsh of river Loughor between Hendy and Pontarddulais. St Teilo Church is of course now at St Fagans Museum Cardiff. This hymn was sung by Rachel Thomas in the film "Proud Valley"

Dafydd's wife was from Nantmoel farm in Llangyfelach; they had a son Israel (who lived at Llangyfelach) and I think Dafydd had a daughter Elizabeth. Sometime after 1770 Dafydd moved to Bassaleg and then to Peterston-Super-Ely, after he left Llandeilo Fach farm.

I am interested in whether anyone had managed to trace his descendants?

Carmarthenshire Lookup Requests / Phillip Thomas Burial
« on: Tuesday 18 May 10 23:19 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I have a death in BMD for a Phillip Thomas aged 31 in Carmarthen c1893 and wondering whether anyone have a burial record please? This is a request for a 3rd party and we don't know where he lived or even if it is definitely the right Phillip!

Our Phillip had a daughter Annie Jane who was 25 in 1911 (in Llanedi Parish). He was widowed when she was a baby and died when she was about 7.

Sorry I don't have more information about Phllip or his wife. (We know the details of his daughter from 1911 onwards)

Thanks

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Newspaper Picture *COMPLETE*
« on: Saturday 15 May 10 21:59 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I have just been given the only picture we have of my Great Grandfather but it's on a very old newspaper clipping. The paper is a bit brown and there are creases where it has been folded.

Please can anyone advise on the best way to get the creases out without damaging the paper, and whether it will be possible to get a decent picture from it afterwards. Should I use a scanner or digial camera, and what resolution please?

P.S. I don't know for sure which newspaper it's from, but it's likely to be one that covered Rhosllanerchrugog Council meetings. Don't suppose I can get a copy from the newspaper.

Thank You
Morgan
