Wiltshire / Long family of Kingston Deverell
« on: Monday 26 February 18 17:41 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anything is known of the family of Stephen and Ann Long of Kingston Deverell? Their daughter Sarah married a Robert Newton, who died at Cerne Workhouse in 1905 and then married George Foot in 1916. I don't know if she had a job?
Many thanks for any help.

Dorset / Good Hope Inn Hermitage/hilfield

My descendant Mercy Foot was a lodger in the former inn before her death. I had visited the pub before it closed without that knowledge and now it is a private house. The only picture I have seen of it as a pub shows a group outside and the pub is not shown. Would anyone know if there is a picture somewhere showing the old inn? Many thanks  Mark

Samuel Short was born around 1874 and married Margaret Foot on the 30.5.1898 at her village Up Cerne. They had children Wilhelmena, Edgar, David, Gerald, Wilfred, Stanley. Sam was a builder like his father.

That is all I know about Sam and Bessie. I would like to know their death dates and any addresses or anything else that comes to light.

Many thanks fir all help.

Dorset / Emily Evans nee Foot and husband Frank
« on: Wednesday 24 January 18 20:48 GMT (UK)  »
Emily was born 27.9.1880 in Up Cerne, Dorset and married Frank Evans on the 21.8.1897 (place not known)

For a time they lived in Pontypool before moving to Branksome.

I understand they had 8 children, Alice, George, Rose, Arthur, Wilfred and Frank.

Apart from the above and details of Emily's parents and siblings , I know nothing of their occupations or anything else about her or  Frank.

Any information would be greatfully received.

Many thanks

« on: Tuesday 23 January 18 23:02 GMT (UK)  »
Rose Foot was born 1.4.1879 in Up Cerne, Dorset. She married Ernest George Stone, who worked on the railways and they lived in Basingstoke. Rose died on the 8.3.1910.

All I know of Rose is the above apart from knowledge about her siblings and parents.
Any info regarding where she lived, if she worked and children details etc would be most helpful.

Many thanks

Mark

Also any additional details regarding Ernest would be helpful as it might give a clue as to how they got together.

Somerset / Thomas Richard Tolley of Meare
« on: Sunday 21 January 18 11:56 GMT (UK)  »
Dick Tolley married Frances Foot in 1918. For a time they ran Stileway Farm in Meare nr Glastonbury. Unfortunately he had money troubles and he tried on more than one occasion to take his life. A newspaper advert in Jan 1937 has him as the owner, but a month later it was his wife selling. He died on the 13.2.1937. The family understand that he shot himself in the cowstall. I have been unable to trace a report of his death which would surely have been reported.  Any help regarding Dick and his family and previous background would be very helpful.

Many thanks  Mark

Dorset / Cottage Up Cerne Wood, Up Cerne
« on: Thursday 18 January 18 16:10 GMT (UK)  »
My gt gt grandfather George Foot was woodman/keeper at Up Cerne. He died in 1923 and lived in the cottage in the wood. The cottage was demolished with several other homes circa 1960's by the owner of the estate. I have never seen an old photo of the cottage and hope that as it was near a footpath and as it was around after his death for a number of years, then someone may know of a picture. There was a well next to the house and adders could be a nuisance. A newspaper cutting advises that he killed 6 on one day.  George had 15 children and 3 wives and any contact with descendants of those families may be mutually beneficial to our research.
