Occupation Interests / Electrical wireman 1906
« on: Monday 24 October 11 15:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I've just got the death certificate of my late Great, Great Grand father which shows clearly what his profession was.

Both this and the birth certificate of his children show that he worked as an Electrical wireman HM Dockyard. He lived in Plymouth. This information is also shown on the 1911 census.

I've taken a little look and there is a wire maker listed. I'm wondering now what the Electrical wireman would have been?

Any help appreciated!

The Common Room / Tracing a person in the 1960's?
« on: Sunday 23 October 11 14:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to trace my late Great Grandmother who passed away in the late 1960's. I have a postcard from her daughter and Grand daughter to her address in Plymouth and only the start of a name, Mrs L.P. McQuade.

There is a great deal of unknown with her and the last living relative that ever met her believed her name was Patricia Patterson and that she met a man called William McQuade, moved in with him and then took his name. She was know to all as Nana Patty.

I have exhaused all plausable searches and i'm drawing blanks and was wondering if there is any way of finding out what her first name would have been. I suspect that Patty was a middle name and if I can find out what the initial 'L' stands for, I might crack my problem!

Thanks in advance,

Rich

England / Brick wall. Mollie / Molly McQuade
« on: Monday 26 September 11 18:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I've been researching my family history and found people on here to be very helpful and extremely knowledgable. I'm hoping someone here might be able to steer me in the right direction!

My great grandmother, Mollie/Molly Clarke nee McQuade. Death certificate shows her date of birth as 20th Dec 1912 in Durham. Maiden name being McQuade.

Her marriage certificate shows she was 18 at the time and apparently the date of birth was different on her passport but this cannot be found. I'm told it was 1914.

Mollie's fathers name on the marriage certificate was William McQuade and he served in the British Army in India. I don't know anything more about him.

Mollie's mother was called Patty Patterson. Again, I know nothing more about her! I have found postcards addressed to Patty which. One of which was addressed to Mrs L.P. Patterson. Suggesting Patricia was a middle name.

I know that Patty lived in Plymouth around 1950 and i'm told that the family moved to Plymouth sometime before then and that Mollie met her husband Francis Cumberland Lavers Clarke there. Her father worked with Francis Clarke in India in the army which is where they then married.

Now the twist - the family story is that Patty Patterson initially married a John Patterson who died during WW1. She then went on to live with William McQuade but never married him. I have found a photo of a John Patterson in a military uniform and the rear reads "John Patterson, Mothers brother." This refering to Molly Clarke.

I've got the marriage certificate and death certificate for Molly but can't seem to find the birth certificate. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Rich

Armed Forces / Help identifing medals/ribbons from a photo -
« on: Saturday 17 September 11 23:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

After some extensive research and nagging of family members I have finally uncovered some information about my great grandfather, Francis Cumberland Lavers Clarke, 1906-1958.

I'm trying to figure out which unit(s) he served in from his uniform and also which awards / medals he was given.

I know that he was a British officer in the Pakistan Army and served in Bareilly, India 1932 and from what i've already found online he is shown as a Sergeant in 1928 (Fibis info) I'm told by my mother that he retired as a Lt. Colonel and I've found the London Gazette page which confirms this fact.

Sadly nobody seems to know much more about him and I would very much like to research his military service but i'm not quite sure where to search.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated...

Rich

Hi,

New to this forum but from the looks of it, if i'm ever going to get help - this is where i'll find it!

I'm trying to trace my Great Grandfather and his family.

I've managed to find his birth certificate,

Francis Cumberland Francis CLARKE, born Oct/Nov/Dec 1906 in Plymouth.

I know that he served in the British Indian Army and reached the rank of around Colonel. I've found a possible hit for him using FIBIS.org.

This record shows that he was a staff sergeant in 1928 in the Royal Indian Army Service Corps. It appears the name given is Francis Lavers CLARKE.

I'm hitting a real brick wall now and looking for any help or advice!

Thanks,

Rich
