« on: Monday 05 October 15 12:56 BST (UK)  »
Years ago on the old family search I found records which I can't find now.I must admit Ive never got used to the new format but do still use it as there is no other option.
Anyone else feel the same.

The Lighter Side / Fathers poem ......can't remember
« on: Saturday 26 September 15 10:14 BST (UK)  »
My fathers party piece at family gatherings was a poem which as children we loved and used to join in.Now many many years later I can only remember fully the first line ...bits come back.
Does anyone know ...Years ago beside the sea ,there lived a most ambitious flea.
Is it one that was going around inthe forties or did he make it up.

Census and Resource Discussion / Free Reg 2.....is Free Reg 1 still available
« on: Wednesday 16 September 15 11:18 BST (UK)  »
Ive used Free Reg for a long time and have been impressed with the information available.
Telling my cousin about it she finds she can only get Freereg 2 and was disappointed that the records weren't as good.
A
Looking at names on Freereg 2 only gave the minimum information whereas on Free Reg 1 you could click on a name and you could get birth and baptism date, church ,parents name and job and witnesses. Not in all cases but this information and the ability to click on a name has disappeared.

Technical Help / Sending photoes from iPad doesn't always work
« on: Tuesday 25 August 15 15:26 BST (UK)  »
I often send BMDs as photographs to other researchers. Some have no problem getting them whilst others say they come up too small ontbeir screen. This obviously happens with pictures as well.As it only happens to a few people is it their computer set up which needs adjusting.

London and Middlesex / Ancestry updates on electoral registers ....mistakes
« on: Monday 24 August 15 12:39 BST (UK)  »
I found my grand father at a few addresses in the early 1900s to 1939.I knew where he lived and found him where he should be but the address given was different from the one on the record. On one it stated he was at the police station.....clicked and the record came up with his right address.
So if you are looking and see a strange address don't be put off because I think the actual record will be correct.

The Lighter Side / A good family history book to read....about 5 sisters
« on: Monday 10 August 15 07:52 BST (UK)  »
Helen Batten is the author of "The Scarlet Sisters" which is the story of her grandmother and her sisters living on the banks of the River Thames.
Anyone who comes across family surprises  will love this book which starts in poverty and goes through two world wars.
Enjoy

Kent / Dunk and Nightingale family from Hawkhurst
« on: Monday 03 August 15 12:33 BST (UK)  »
My several times great grandfather was Robert Dunk .Ancestry records revealed his will in 1765 and his clandestine marriage to a Margaret Powell in London in 1748. In his will he names four children of his first marriage William Ann Jane Marchant and Elizabeth.Elizabeth is my direct line and married a John Nightingale in 1770.I know I have the right family as her sister Jane Marchant and husband John were witnesses. The second marriage to Margaret Powell States they were both from Hawkhurst. They also had many children mentioned in will and to be looked after by Ann.I found the births for his four older children in St Saviour Southwark and the mother was named as Elizabeth. All the children in his second marriage were born in Hawkhurst.
He was a carrier but I'm not sure where he was born ....some say Etchingham .Im looking for a first marriage to Elizabeth which I think must have been in London.
Hopefully some Dunk researchers trees on Ancestry can be corrected as they all say he married in Hawkhurst and I'm pretty sure his first marriage is wrong in them too.
