Family History Beginners Board / Gardener family

Hi Gardener family,
Would any-one have any information on a Hilda Beatrice Gardener, born supposedly 1903 in the Berkshire /Hampshire District of the U.K.
This above is the Birth date I found, after looking in the FBD on the web, however mum always celebrated her birth date on January 3rd, and said that she was born in 1910, in Kent. [Woman always lie about their age].Not knowing where Kent is, as to the boundaries of Berkshire and Hampshire, makes it hard to compare.
Some-one must have a serious gap in their family research if they are related to Hilda, [if in fact it is the same Hilda]. I know she said the spelling of her maiden name, was different to the normal spelling of the name, and cannot definately say she is a]Gardener.
She migrated to Australia around late 1930's, early 40's. I cannot find any record of their migration to Australia. She adopted both myself, and my brother [twins], in 1949. We were privately adopted, [an under the counter adoption].
Both Hilda and my adoptive father were very secretive about there early lives, and research showed that my adoptive father Harold Purdie, had two previous wives. He came from Middlesex in England. An Electrical Engineer of High repute. Dad had a brother named Desmond, who I think was a Chemist. Mum and Dad gave me and my brother a happy life, but there are too many secrets to let go by.
Any help/or discussion on this matter would be appreciated.
