New Zealand Completed Requests / Read B4 requesting Archives lookups *COMPLETED*
« on: Sunday 23 November 08 20:14 GMT (UK)  »
It has become apparent that more people are requesting lookups quoting data found on CD.

PLEASE NOTE:
Most requests for Wellington require a box number which is not normally given on the CD.

How to check if the CD has the correct info:
Go to the Archway website
http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/
and using the “Simple Search”, see if you can find the record.

If you can’t find the file,
Go to the “Advanced Search” option

(say we are looking for: AAOM 6031,1037/1953)

On the diagram on the RH side

Click on:
Series

type in the Code (Series #) & Agency Code
Go

More detail

View All Records Belonging to this

Refine Search

type in the year (1953)
Go

find the range that contains 1037
More

and you will find that it is in Box 209

So, the information you would need to provide in this example is:
agency   series   accession   box / item   record   part   alternative no.
AAOM    6031                         209   1037
+ Name of the person
+ Year Filed

The Lighter Side / Calling on our GREAT Kiwi helpers
« on: Monday 17 November 08 02:06 GMT (UK)  »
Now that the main NZ board is almost under control…..

I would like to re-organise the NZ Resources Board.

My feeling is that there are so many posts and some run into many pages, that it is rather over whelming and counter productive.

What I would like to do is ask for your submissions of what you think are the best “one stop” sites for various topics, then I will compile them into a one post topic which will be locked and stickied.

I have started a couple of  new topics on the resources board, one for Cemeteries, and one for Shipping / Passenger Lists.

Please add your favourite “one stop shop” sites which you feel would give a “visitor” to the NZ Board a good starting place.

Ideas for more “Summary Topics” are most welcome.

So, post your weblinks on the 2 topics on the Resources board, and any other suggestions here.

Thanks for your help
Bren

New Zealand Completed Requests / A BIG Thank You
« on: Monday 03 November 08 20:08 GMT (UK)  »
To everyone who has responded so quickly to my PM and marked their old posts **COMPLETED**.

I’ve sent out PMs to 107 users which should have covered everyone with 3 or more posts.

To those who haven’t had a PM, would you please check to see what (if any) old messages you might have on this board.

The easiest way to do this is to:
Click on “Started By”
and this will sort all the messages by user name.

For those who are worried that the posts are being deleted, rest assured – they are only being moved to our “Completed” board which will help clear the main working board.

Thanks again for your co-operation.

Bren.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Boer War photo
« on: Monday 20 October 08 00:28 BST (UK)  »
Hello all

I have a photograph of my grandfather taken with 3 other soldiers with the surnames:
HYDE
STEWART
GLASGOW

He was in the Third Contingent (Rough Riders), No. 6 Company which sailed from Lyttelton on 17 February 1900 on the SS Knight Templar for South Africa.

It is more than likely that these 3 men were from the Wanganui area.

I am willing to send a digital copy if one of these is your relative.
