The Common Room / Same birth registered twice - 6 years apart!!!
« on: Sunday 09 September 18 22:19 BST (UK)  »
Really odd one guys. I will be getting both certs later this week, but would like some thoughts on this. No names though given that people are alive.

Just started my step-daughter's tree today (she's 15, it's her biological father's side - he has no contact). Her paternal grandfather popped over and gave as much detail as he could and it's allowed me to jump back a few generations on his dad's side, but he said his mum never talked about her family.

He mentioned that his parents had a daughter a few years older than him, but she was put up for adoption.

His mum was married previously, and he has a few older half-brothers. One is still alive.

I searched for his birth - found it - then did the normal search under both parents surnames just in case his sister's birth was there (I know adoptions aren't, but I was hoping it might not have been a formal adoption).

This is the odd but. His birth is there in 1962, but the exact same details are registered in 1968 too - his combination of names, combined with his parents surnames, strikes me as way more than a coincidence.

Looking for their marriage, I found it in 1968. I have possibly found a marriage for his father in 1959 that he isn't aware of, but to a completely different woman!!!!

Any thoughts? I haven't discussed it with him, and he clearly isn't aware of any of this.

I can't imagine that he's six years younger than he thinks he is, but I'm at a loss as to a rational explanation

Herefordshire / Sayce/Sayse Family - anyone got any connections?
« on: Friday 27 November 15 13:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, it's a fishing expedition here!

I have an Esther Sayce/Sayse marrying a Timothy Hughs/Hughes in 1816 in Lyonshall.

She remarries a Pritchard after being widowed, but it's the Hughes line I'm descended from, so I have little info on Pritchard.

I was wondering if anyone might have come across Esther in their research at all - I have no other information to hand at the moment as I am in work sorry, but if I didn't post this now, I'd forget to do it later  ;D

Cork / Whites of Kinsale, and Ahearn(?) of Glanmire >>
« on: Thursday 12 June 14 11:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, I have very limited info on the families, so a stab in the dark in case anyone happens to be researching these people!

I have a Patrick White born c1843, place of birth given as Kinsale on 1911 census, and Ellen Ahearn (or various spellings on all the children's birth certs), born c1840 in Glanmire. On 1911 they state that they had been married since around 1864, and their first child was born that year in Wales on 14th June.

I have no idea how common the surnames are in these areas, and a search for a marriage on the various websites has not been fruitful. Keep me in mind if you run across these surnames  ;D

Glamorganshire / Maesteg Cemetery - looks like they're cutting back on staff >>
« on: Tuesday 15 October 13 21:40 BST (UK)  »
I popped up there earlier to ask the guys is they could locate two graves for me (the grave locations in the GFHS cd do not correlate to the records they hold in the cemetery office unfortunately), and they told me that probably in the next month or so they will not be able to help people locate graves in the cemetery as the council are cutting back on the staffing there.

Anyone wanting to locate graves will from now on have to ring Bridgend council.

The office in the cemetery has a huge map of the place that has the graves individually marked with the plot numbers on them - I'm going to try and get back up there during the week to try and get a load of shots of the map so that if anyone gets a grave location, they can PM me and I can send them a copy of the map. I've got the burial CD here anyway, so I'm going to start plotting all the burials against the maps I'm doing right now - long old project, but I wonder if I can make a book out of it  ;D

Glamorganshire / Millward family - Merthyr and Maesteg >>
« on: Saturday 12 October 13 18:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, I've checked the surname interests table, but no results. I'm just wondering if anyone has any interest in this family at all as I have a reasonable amount of info going up to the 1911 census, but would love to track down any living relatives in order to (selfishly!) get hold of some further info, photo's, etc

Thanks!
Chris

Glamorganshire / Anyone got any photos of old Pontlottyn??
« on: Tuesday 08 October 13 13:55 BST (UK)  »
Hello all, I've googled and googled, but have to admit failure! I'm looking for any photo's of Morris Court in Pontlottyn. I know the street no longer exists, and was possibly in the area of Wine Street area, so I'm not sure if the three houses that were in Morris Court are now under what looks like council housing in that area.

Any info on that area would be greatly appreciated as one of my great grandfathers was born there in 1906

Thanks!

Glamorganshire / Pembrokeshire Castle - Merthyr - was this a pub?? >>
« on: Saturday 21 September 13 17:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, I've come across some relatives on the 1861 census in Merthyr - RG9; Piece: 4053; Folio: 25; Page: 5 - they're living at Pembrokeshire Castle (which appears to be in Castle Street), and I think the head of the household is down as being a "Barshop Keeper". I can see that Castle Street has been redeveloped (c1967 I think), and I can't find any reference to this place either. Anyone ever heard of it?

Thanks!
