Leitrim / Help with Leitrim Family
« on: Tuesday 14 June 22 18:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi. Looking for a confirmed name for a gt gt gdmother, She was married to Patrick Gilroy (1817-1881) of Tullyskeherney, Rossinver. They married I believe on 24th April, 1848 at Ballaghameehan Chapel.
They had my gt granda Patrick Gilroy in 1855. I have a Bridget Dolan written down but can't recall where I found that  so it may be wrong. No matter how may places i look i cant seem to find a Bridget Gilroy from Tullyskeherney death. I saw one for a Bridget Gilroy in Sligo Lunatic Asylum on 28th September 1872- Aged 55, Married to a farmer. But not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Patsy

World War One / Soldier Help
« on: Saturday 28 May 22 18:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have paid to look up someone's record in the Forces Records website. It brings up Frank Hannaway Service Number 3200 in the Irish Guards. It mentions a dental ailment in 1916 and in 1910 a courtmartial for insubordination. That is all it brings up but I am looking for his signing up card with next of kin etc and service record. Can anyone help what site is better to pay again. The Archives or Fold3. Many thanks Patx

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / Bo'ness Churchyard
« on: Friday 24 September 21 18:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Mt Gt, Gt, Gt Gran's son from her first marriage was Robert Russell. He died aged 16 of drowing in number 24 Kinneil Pit along with 3 others including a 13 year old boy. That was on 7th August 1857. There was no health and safety watching out for the workings and they hit an old seam that had filled up with water and four of them died. On the death Certificate there is a bit from John Shaw the Undertaker that they had been taken to Bo'ness churchyard. I have tried the different graveyard searches for Bo'ness and linlithgow graveyards and I can't find him. Any Ideas? Pat

Donegal / Records for Letterkenny Asylum
« on: Monday 30 August 21 16:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi, my fathers great uncle Bartholemew Hart was born on 18th August 1892 at Cooladonnel, County Leitrim. He was at home in the 1901 and 1911 census and the next I  have is his death in the Letterkenny Asylum on 21 march 1942 of TB. He worked in the shop there but he was an inmate I think. I know of neighbours of theirs that if their child was deaf or had something 'wrong' with them I never saw them  when I visited or they were in asylums part of the year and brought home to help with the hay etc in summer. I'm an OAP now and I always wondered about Bartly. Is there any way to find out how and when he went into the asylum. Some of his brothers and most of their families all worked in Sligo Asylum either farming or as attendants so he might not have been an inmate. Any idea if you can access any records? Thanks  Patsy

Leitrim / Mc Gowan Leitrim
« on: Tuesday 24 November 20 22:44 GMT (UK)  »
Having visited the family farm at 'Raheelin' near Kiltyclogher in Leitrim many times growing up i knew quite a few with the McGowan Surname. Yet Searching through Irish records for the Manorhamilton district I don't think there are many. My Great Grandmother Mary Rooney was born 19 n0v 1853 at lugashnaghta. Married Peter Harte at Glenfarne 24 june 1872 and died at our family farm Raheelin, kiltyclogher on 18th Feb 1936. Her parents were Patrick Rooney (1822-1894) and Bridget (Biddy) Mc Gowan. She is my Mystery. When she married Patrick Rooney on 19 Nov 1853 the witnesses were a Hugh McGowan who might be a brother or her father and a man called Pat Mc Morey it looks like ?
Although there isn't such a name, Anyone any ideas on how to proceed. Thanks Patsy

Armagh / Fleming
« on: Saturday 11 July 20 21:26 BST (UK)  »
Is there any way to find an ancestor called John Fleming from Armagh. His son George Fleming is down in a Scottish census as being born in Tynan, Armagh. He was born in 1779 there. I know there are lots of records with addresses, hearths, tithes, flax growers etc but I don't know where to start. I don't know where George got married to a Margaret Henthorn. I can't find them in Ireland or Scotland anywhere. They lived in Lanarkshire in Scotland until they died and had a large family. One of their sons Thomas (my ancestor) is down as being born in Northern Ireland in 1810 so i thought Margaret was from there. Her name Henthorn is only prevalent in Northern England. When she died her death certificate stated father Thomas Henthorn and Mother Unknown. Any ideas friends? Pat
