The Common Room / Merging trees on ancestry.
« on: Tuesday 29 October 19 16:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
is it possible to merge different trees together on ancestry? I've got three separate tress that eventually all lead back to the same parents and was wondering if there was a way to merge them. I don't fancy having to start a new tree an input all the info separately.

Thanks Mick

Occupation Interests / Merchant Navy Previous Ship - abbreviation of name Gwr
« on: Monday 16 September 19 18:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

Looking for my grandfather and found this in the crew listing for the SS St David WW1 Hospital ship.

Francis Hugh Prior; rank/rating, Seaman; age, 35; place of birth, Derry; previous ship, Gwr.

https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C14740191

All the crew have the same abbreviation for their previous ship Gwr

apart from it being the Great Western Railway, anyone have any ideas as what it could be.

Thanks Mick

Norfolk / Born and Baptised the same day.
« on: Tuesday 20 August 19 20:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

Is there any significance to a child being born and baptised on the same day, was the child still born, or born out of wedlock? There is just the Mothers name. The entry is for Daniel Gaul, b June 10th 1787, Burgh Next Aylsham
Also in a lot of the entries for Burgh next Aylsham there is the entry delivered at the General.

Any ideas?

Thanks Mick

Occupation Interests / Railway Porter or Carman
« on: Friday 16 August 19 20:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

I got this image from a face book group I'm in, entitled St Pancras 1918. It shows either a porter or a carman, (I have both in the family tree). I'm hoping it shows a carman so that I can use it as a representation of them. He is a smartly dressed in a uniform however so he's probably a goods porter, although carmen may have worn uniforms as they represented their companies on deliveries. (he could even be one of mine as I have several ancestors working at St Pancras around that time  :D).
Any thoughts?

Occupation Interests / LNER Service Records
« on: Wednesday 07 August 19 12:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I'm looking for service records for some LNER personnel.
I've found this link

https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/N13897730

which includes Staff records but is not available digitally and its a bit of a trip to get to Kew. Has anyone searched these records at all? I was wondering what staff records are included, all staff or just certain grades such signallers, drivers, clerks or loco works. I'm after signallers and porters. I've found some on ancestry.

Thanks Mick

Hi all, anyone know where I could find LMS Drivers service records, theres some LNWR records on ancestry but not the LMS. Would they be kept at York rail museum do you think or at Kew?
Thanks Mick
