Fermanagh / Anne McCusker: birth Recorded at Tempo (CoI)
« on: Sunday 20 February 22 23:01 GMT (UK)  »
I came across Anne's birth and baptism in https://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/fermanagh/churches/tempo-bths.htm born 8/7/1849 baptised 5/8/1849. She is the eldest child of John and Susan McCusker who married in 1848 in Clogher.

I cannot find anything more about Anne after her birth. Can anyone else find any other record about her?

Armed Forces / 4th Northumberland Fusiliers
« on: Monday 07 February 22 21:46 GMT (UK)  »
I have just come across, in ancestry.co.uk, a record for my great-uncle Edward John Newton in the  UK, Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929 stating that he died 10 December 1902 in Dublin, that he was Private 8454 4th Northumberland Fusiliers, attached from ???? (can't read it) and he enlisted 28 May 1901.

Is there any way I can find out more about his service, albeit brief?

World War Two / 17thBGH RAMC in India
« on: Monday 24 August 20 22:30 BST (UK)  »
My father, in the RAMC, was in the 17th British General Hospital in India in WW2. In recent times, particularly the 75th anniversary of VJ Day, I started looking at maps of India and Burma; I don't know why I had not done so before now! And it struck me just how many thousands of miles patients would have had to be transported from Burma to the Field Hospitals in India. Also I wondered why the 17th BGH was in India and not Burma.

Recently I bought a book called The Campaign in Burma which I found very helpful and interesting especially some of the maps in it, being able to place locations.

Technical Help / Problem with VMware Workstation
« on: Thursday 25 October 18 15:43 BST (UK)  »
The installation of https://my.vmware.com/en/web/vmware/free#desktop_end_user_computing/vmware_workstation_player/15_0 seemed to work but, after attempting to create a new virtual machine, the following appeared.  **
Can anyone help, please?

I had, also, attempted to install VirtualBox which seemed okay until I tried to import the Ultimate Family Tree programme from a disk and was told that a programme should be imported from drive D and it did not recognise that a disk was in the drive. Thank you.

This host supports Intel VT-x, but Intel VT-x is disabled.

Intel VT-x might be disabled if it has been disabled in the BIOS/firmware settings or the host has not been power-cycled since changing this setting.

(1) Verify that the BIOS/firmware settings enable Intel VT-x and disable 'trusted execution.'

(2) Power-cycle the host if either of these BIOS/firmware settings have been changed.

(3) Power-cycle the host if you have not done so since installing VMware Player.

(4) Update the host's BIOS/firmware to the latest version.

This host does not support "Intel EPT" hardware assisted MMU virtualization.

Module 'CPUIDEarly' power on failed.

Failed to start the virtual machine.
