Can someone help with any info. on Urvin family. They seem to have been around the Birtley district since early 1700s - main occupation being tailors.
Just a chance that:
Jane Urvin b. 1821 is my g.g. grandmother
married John Ross, Bishop Auckland
marriage June qrtr 1858.
Then it gets complicated!!! First of all, I have a suspicion that Urvin was her married name, she appears in 1851 census, age 30 unmarried, lodging [along with 3 boy Urvins ages 2, 4, 5 - or could they be her nephews?] with John Ross unmarried.
Then a marriage record June qrtr 1858 Bishop Auckland.
I now have copy baptism record for their son:
Alexander Ross, privately baptised 28th May 1854, Birtley. [as you can see this is 4-years before marriage].
While looking through the microfilm for this period, I see that 12 months previous there was a baptism:
17th July 1853, Birtley, Northumberland.
James Irving, son of John & Jane Ross, abode Bishop Auckland.
I can't work out whether Jane was married, divorced, widowed, single. But she definitely had at least one child [Alexander] with John Ross before they were married.
Can someone please tell me where I go from here?
