Perthshire / Cowbyre area in Coupar Angus?
« on: Thursday 03 March 11 13:36 GMT (UK)  »
I am on the trail of my maternal great great grandfather Peter Gilchrist. He was born in the area of Cowbyre, Coupar Angus and I am wondering if anyone knows exactly where this was/is?

His parents were James Gilchrist and Agnes Alexander and they had I think 7 children. Peter was born 1836. In 1841 they are all in Cowbyre.

By 1851 they are in Causewayend, Coupar Angus and much of the family remained there all their days except for Peter who moved onto Tillicoultry.

Cowbyre itself is a mystery as I cannot find anything about it and as I have relatives coming from USA in May who would like to see Coupar Angus I would like to know more about it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Stirlingshire / Help please re. Broad St and Baker St - Stirling
« on: Tuesday 16 November 10 14:14 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone advise me regarding these old streets in Stirling. I have my maternal great grandparents at various addresses over 30 year period. Last Saturday I went to Stirling to try and find the following addresses.

44 Baker Street - Obviously demolished and new flats built

24 Broad Street - still there

30, 44 and 48 Broad Street - No sign of them and I cannot see where they might have been.

Does anyone know where these numbers were in Broad Street?

Lanarkshire / What became of Duncan McFarlane born 1842/43?
« on: Wednesday 14 July 10 16:29 BST (UK)  »
I am at a loss as to what happened to my great grandfather Duncan McFarlane. The info I have is as follows:- He was born 1842/43 in Renton or Cardross to John McFarlane and Agnes Douglas who married in 1840 Cardross.
He was an ironmoulder to trade and I have him in 1861 in Glasgow and in Bridgeton in 1865 when he married Elizabeth Bogle. They had 9 children (that I have found so far)John 1866/Robert Scott 1868/Margaret Scott 1870/Duncan 1872/Daniel 1874/Catherine 1879/ Duncan 1882/William 1885/Isabella 1887.

In 1901 he is not with Elizabeth & family at 34 Dalmarnock Road, Bridgeton but I think he is lodging at 108 Main St., Rutherglen. He is stated as deceased on son William's marriage in 1915 but cannot find details on SP - Help??

Angus (Forfarshire) / Anyone know of Jessie Pilmer - 1870 Dundee?
« on: Friday 08 May 09 09:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am looking for help in tracing details of a Jessie Pilmer who had an illegitimate daughter Isabella Gilchrist in August 1870 - father named as Peter Gilchrist.

The address was Doig's Entry, 164 Overgate, Dundee.

Peter Gilchrist is my g.g. grandfather.

In January 1873 Peter's address at the time he married Elizabeth Watson was 68 Seagate, Dundee.

Any help would be appreciated - I have tried all variations of the name in Scotlandspeople and no luck.

Anyone know what Jessie might be short for (other than Jessica).

Thanks

Pauline
