England / WILSON. Glasgow, Lancashire, London
« on: Tuesday 30 January 07 03:01 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for descendants of John Wilson & Annabella Graham.

He was a brewer and spirit merchant and died at Laurieston, Glasgow on 30 April 1840.
The 1841 census for Portland St, Gorbals shows:
Name      Age   Occupation      Where born
Annabella   35   Brewer      Outside county
Jean      15            Lanarkshire
Margaret   14
Thomas   9
Alexander   5
John      4
George   2
Annabella   1
Thomas   45   Clerk         Outside county
(Thomas could be John's brother)
The household also shows:
Byrce Louden 25   Shopman
John Ritchie   15   Shopman

I think Jean may have married John Ritchie.

I believe Margaret & Annabella didn't marry.

Thomas & Alexander – whereabouts unknown, but could have been involved with the East India Company as were John & George.

John married Margaret Moncrieff Jameson and were living in Manchester c. 1900.
They had the following children – (ages @ 1891 census):
John 15
Alexander Jameson 14
Agnes Borlas 12
Annabella G. 9
After many hours of searching the 1901 census I found John (64), Margaret (57) & Annabella (19) staying with their son Alex (24) in London!!

George is my Gt-grandfather and arrived in NZ in 1874 – we don't know why he came.  He had a ship-board romance & married 3 days after arrival.

Would love to hear from anyone who has any of these people in their "tree".

Bren.

Lancashire Completed Lookup Requests / LIVERPOOL marriage cert help please
« on: Monday 29 January 07 00:58 GMT (UK)  »
I would really appreciate some help  as I am trying to trace the grooms father - there is a line through his father's details.

At the top it states that the Marriage was solemnized at the Parish Church in the Parish of Liverpool in the County of Lancaster. (real helpful!!)
At the bottom is says Married in the Parish Church according to the Rites & Ceremonies of the Established Church after Banns.

Would the Banns show this information?
Does anyone know where the Residence is/was?
Rathbone _______? (It looks like it could be a "small f___" - farm perhaps??
Hopefully this would this help narrow down the Parish where the marriage took place?  (there are many C of E Parishes listed on the net for Liverpool)
They were married on 13th September 1846.

His death Cert (from Ireland) shows no family or burial info, with age 48.
His wife's tombstone in NZ states "relict of James Arrowsmith, Astley, Lancashire"
There are numerous James Arrowsmith births in the Astley/Leigh area, but none in 1817, but a couple of possibilities if I widen the search.

He could have possibly worked for the Rathbone's (Quakers) in Liverpool as he was working for the Malcomson's (Quakers) at their Cotton Mill in Portlaw, Ireland at his death

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.
(Had no luck trying to attach a photograph of the cert)
