William died 3 feb 1918 Neilson St Bellshill his widow emigrated to America shortly after and passed away in 1936 in LA California. Lanarkshire / Help with Surname.
« on: Sunday 10 September 23 10:34 BST (UK)  »
If i could get any assistance to establish the correct surname I will be indebted can I start with the family surname of the relation I'm connected to which is McLaughlin which in itself comes with various spellings but I have established those so I have a James McLaughlin born abt 1844 in Ireland (according to one census) he firstly marries a Catherine Tierney (1843) in Aug 1864 they have at least one child Catherine born Nov 1865. Sadly Catherine (1843) dies sometime between 1865 and 1869 (not established her death yet), James (1844) then as a widower re-marries a Julia Hamenware (1850) on the 1st of Jan 1870 it is this surname that I am trying to establish they go on to have 3 children Michael (1871) Mary A (1873) and Sarah (1877) 2 certifcates state mothers surname as Hamenware one with an added m. Sarah dies soon after birth and also her mother Julia (1850) both in 1877 Julia's mother Bridget is the informant surname now states Hemanware father John (deceased) and mother Bridget mn Heating which is actually Keating, Bridget (1830 abt) dies in dec 1880 surname now Humondwire mn Caten informant is daughter Bridget (1851) who married a Patrick Cassidy in july 1875 which gave her surname as Hammonwire or Hummonwire, Bridget (1851) dies herself in 1896 maiden name Hemmondware so what would be the correct surname to trace as i cant seem to find any of these named all above takes place in Glasgow I have tried to look further here and in Ireland with no success.

Lanarkshire / McCormick and Cairns.
« on: Friday 18 August 23 18:13 BST (UK)  »
Some help maybe lateral thinking would be appreciated please, my grt grt grand fathers brother Henry Henderson married a Mary Ann McCormick in 1871 in Mossend Bothwell her age stated is 18 ( not sure of occupation can only make out Cotton mill) parents John McCormick and Margaret Cairns (I believe),
image of certificate posted. I'm trying to ascertain Mary Ann's family the wedding was in Oct and there was an earlier Census in 71 found Henry's Ok the nearest to Mary Ann's seemed to be the one i'm posting which is from No3 Chapel Square Bothwell which has the McCormick family with Mary Ann aged 16......which ties in with Mary Ann's later Census information stating she was born in Ireland. I found no 1861 Census for the family but 71 states that two children where born Ireland around that time for the Census.....the trouble is I have found a death certificate for Mary Ann McCormick in 1855 in Holytown/Bothwell with the same parents and in 1856 a brother Thomas aged 7 also died naming the same parents so am I on the wrong path ( the writing on the certificates sometimes makes me think I am) as I cant seem to trace another Mary Ann with those parents from Ireland on those dates is it possible she was born in 1855 ( havent found a birth in Bothwell) in Ireland so soon after losing the 1st Mary Ann in Bothwell then coming back so soon to lose a son Thomas..I'm stuck going round in circles any help would be great thanks.

Renfrewshire / Robert Wilson 1832 - ? Paisley
« on: Tuesday 04 July 23 07:26 BST (UK)  »
Would like some help please in tracing the marriage and death of Robert Wilson born circa 1832 his wife ? Jane/Jeannie McLachlan/McLauchlan.
Both found on the 1861 Census at 26 Bells Row Wishaw with son Robert born 1860.
On young Robert's birth line born 29 Bells Row Wishaw father Robert is a Coalminer mother Jeannie ms McLachlan there is no marriage details.
1861 Census states Robert (29) and wife (23) from Paisley son Robert (8 months) from Wishaw.
1862 they have a daughter Jane born 139 Caledonia Rd Wishaw father Robert Coalminer mother Jane ms McLauchlan married sept 15 1858 Paisley.
1866 I found young Robert had died in Paisley father Robert a Coalminer mother Jane ms McLauchlan with help from RC found that young Robert had drowned in the River Linn at Saucel Paisley newspaper clipping says he was aged 8 death cert states 7 but he must have just turned 6 as he was born July 18th 1860 and drowned on Aug 27th 1866 paper states he was from Bridge St Paisley.
Have found no trace of parents or sister Jane in 1871 Census.
Jane then marries my grt grandfather James Steel (1864) in 1881 she is aged 19 address given 40 Maxwellton Paisley parents Robert a Coalminer and Jane ms McLachlan both deceased. they go on to have at least four children 2 die young 2 survive but Jane dies in 1888 five days after giving birth to her last child. So trying to find proof of marriage and deaths of Jane's parents if possible thanks.
