Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA Testing Advice
« on: Saturday 28 September 19 18:54 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have been considering having DNA testing for quite awhile and I would like some advice please.  I have illegitmate link back over 100 years maternally and I have a paternal link where there was a death in my direct line and all contact with that part of the family was lost.
I also have an interest in ethnicity links.
I want to be sure that the company that I go with is discreet and adheres to data protection.

Any advice would be great.  Thank you.

Canada / WW2 Serviceman Information
« on: Friday 28 December 18 14:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
Does anyone know how I would go about finding an individual who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WW2?  He was stationed in London before active duty and I believe he was from Quebec.  It is possible that he may have been an officer.

I'm not posting his name on here due to sensitive reasons but if anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated.  I know that I'm looking for a needle in a haystack!

Thank you.

Selkirkshire / William Pearson Mystery
« on: Tuesday 03 April 18 16:15 BST (UK)  »
I need some help with a mystery please.  I am trying to trace a William Pearson, twin of Helen Robb Pearson, born on the 1st of August 1909 in Galashiels.  His mother (Margaret Manor Pearson, nee Marshall) died eighteen days after he was born and the last that I saw him, he was living with his father and paternal grandparents (William and Helen Pearson) according to the 1911 census.  His sister went to live with her Aunt Isabella (nee Pearson) and Uncle William Templeton after they married but he did not.  I was wondering if he ever married and when he died.
Can anyone help?  :)

Selkirkshire / Isabella Pearson

Hello,http://www.rootschat.com/forum/Themes/genealogy/images/bbc/italicize.gif

I am having trouble finding the death of Isabella Pearson born about 1898 in Galashiels.  She was married to William Templeton on the 5th of September 1924 in Galashiels but eventually moved to Innerleithen as William died there in 1965.  They had two children, John, known as Jack, and Helen Middlemass Templeton who I believe was known as Ella.  I'm not sure if Isabella died in Scotland as I was told that there was an Ella Templeton who lived in Wales.  I know that the daughter Helen was known as Ella. I have checked through Scotland's People and I haven't had any luck.  Can anyone help?
Thanks,

Canada / Death Certificate Ontario?
« on: Wednesday 05 July 17 18:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I was wondering what was involved in obtaining a death certificate for my great grandfather who died suddenly during a visit to Toronto in 1957?  I believe the exact date of death was the 21st of March, 1957.  My great grandmother brought his ashes back with her to be buried in Scotland.  My great grandfather's name was Adam Simpson Templeton and he was born on the 10th of December 1892 in Galashiels.

Thanks very much.

Lancashire / Disappearance of Margaret Fitzpatrick??
« on: Sunday 26 February 17 12:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I'm trying to find out what happened to Margaret Fitzpatrick, born about 1857 in Prescot.  Her parents were Catherine Fitzpatrick (nee Duggan) and Thomas Fitzpatrick.  I have found her in the 1861 and 1871 censuses but she disappears after that.  The rest of her family appear in the 1881 census with Thomas Fitzpatrick listed as Head but there is also a mystery grandchild, Thomas Fitzpatrick.  I am speculating that this child could have been Margaret's as he did not belong to her elder brother James nor her younger sister Julia (I have proof of this).  I'm wondering if she died between 1871 and 1881 but I can't find a death record.
Might I point out that her elder brother James married a woman named Margaret Black to avoid any confusion; Margaret Black died as Margaret Fitzpatrick in 1881.  Also, there was a Margaret Fitzpatrick that I found in 1881 in Liverpool but it is not the woman I'm looking for as it states that she was born in Liverpool; she was definitely born in Prescot.
I hope that someone can help!

Thank you

Lancashire / 1890 Lancashire Colloquial Term??
« on: Tuesday 21 February 17 18:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

In the news article from the Liverpool Mercury, 2 August 1890, outlining the trial of John Pickavance, it refers to a number of his family members having a number of issues such as being deaf and mute and also mentions his uncle, as a 'softy'.  Can anyone tell me what this means?  In the paper, it refers to the word as a Lancashire colloquial term.  I tried to attach the article but it is a PDF and too large of a file; it is also an incredibly long article!

Thanks

Lancashire / Catherine Fitzpatrick (nee Duggan) Court or Police Records?
« on: Tuesday 21 February 17 14:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Catherine Fitzpatrick was born in Ireland but most of her adult life was spent in Prescot, Lancashire; a 'colourful' life I might add.  She was in and out of court, apparently, over 60 times and I was wondering where I could find records about this? (that is, if they are still in existence).  She was born in 1831 in Ireland and died at Whiston Union Workhouse in April of 1884 in Prescot.  Her husband was Thomas Fitzpatrick.  I believe most of the trouble she got into was from the late 1860s onwards but there could have been earlier incidences.

Thank you
