Wiltshire / Jane or Ann GLEED - Purton
« on: Thursday 09 February 12 12:55 GMT (UK)  »
Robert and Jane Gleed had at least 7 children between 1783 and 1802, all baptised in Purton. However, there is no marriage record around that time for Robert and Jane Gleed. There is only one from 1781 in Wroughton between Robert Gleed and Ann Gleed.

According to the gleedery (a website that documents all people with the name Gleed), the marriage licence bond calls her Jane, but the marriage register states Ann. He seemed to think that this meant Jane/Ann may be the child of a close relation or brought up in the same household.

I am wondering how or why this link might have been made. If anyone can shed some light it would be very appreciated.

Gloucestershire / NASON - Clifton, Bristol
« on: Wednesday 25 January 12 14:14 GMT (UK)  »
I have been searching for William Nason, b. abt 1818, who was transported to New South Wales in 1834. His convict records show his 'native place' as Clifton. He was convicted at Bristol Quarter Sessions, so this presumably refers to Clifton, the suburb of Bristol. His death record shows his mother as Maria, but lists no fathers name.

Any help tracking down William's birth record, or any other details of his life in England would be great.

Thanks

East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / Humbie - Marriage entry
« on: Tuesday 24 January 12 06:27 GMT (UK)  »
I found a marriage entry on freereg for Alexander Stanners and Jean Sibbald, both of Humbie, in 1792. It is recorded as at Humbie Parish Church, but in the notes section is states:

Irregularly married at Edinburgh by William Gordon "and have given satisfaction to our Session."

I was hoping someone might know what this means - if anything.

Thanks

Australia / John Henry SMITH
« on: Sunday 08 January 12 08:40 GMT (UK)  »
John Henry Smith married Caroline Sophia Ledger in Queensland in 1907. They had two children together, Caroline Gladys Maud b.1908 and John Vincent b.1910. Caroline arrived in Brisbane (from England) on the 30 Mar 1907 and they were married on the 4 Apr the same year. I have managed to trace his wife's family, but no luck with John because of his extremely common name. I don't have their marriage record, so no help there. I thought perhaps they met on the voyage, or came over together, because they were married so soon after she arrived.

Any help about John would be appreciated.

Thanks

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Henry PERKINS - Guernsey
« on: Thursday 29 December 11 09:36 GMT (UK)  »
I recently found an ancestor Henry Perkins who, according to census records, was born in Guernsey around 1796. By 1841 he was living in Lancashire with his Yorkshire-born wife and their children. I have looked around a bit online, and there doesn't seem to be a way to find birth records online. Can anyone help me find out more about Henry and when he left Guernsey?
