United States of America / John Silas Cole - Humboldt County, California - 1900
« on: Sunday 01 November 15 12:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I am trying to find out what happened to John Silas Cole and his wife Mary.

According to the 1900 Census, they were living in Eureka Township, Humboldt County, California.
John was around 70 years old, his wife Mary around 63.
John was born in Middlesex, England - Mary apparently born in Ireland.

They had been living in California since the early 1860s, regularly appearing in the California Great Registers - living in Arcata, Ryans Slough and Eureka Nob. (Apologies for any incorrect spelling).

The trail goes cold after 1900 and if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

Regards, Michael, Australia

Tipperary / Skehan - children of William Skehan & Margaret O'Donnell 1820-40
« on: Thursday 20 June 13 13:43 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I'm seeking some help regarding the marriage of Charles Francis Skehan and Laura Cecelia Sullivan on 23/11/1898 in Anderson, Indiana.

Charles's father was Patrick Francis Skehan, born 24/2/1840 in Tipperary, Ireland.

Patrick's parents were William Skehan and Margaret O'Donnell.

My own gg grandmother was Margaret Skehan, supposedly with the same parents as Patrick.
In my ancestor's collection of papers, I have an invitation for the wedding of Charles and Laura, addressed to Margaret's son and daughter-in-law.

The trouble is, the invitation is with me in Australia and I can't seem to find how Margaret Skehan is connected with Patrick Skehan ie if they were brother and sister, I can't find proof.

Any help would be appreciated

Angus (Forfarshire) / Cameron: John Henry (Jackson) B. Dundee 1900-10
« on: Friday 15 March 13 05:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

John Henry aka Jackson Cameron was born sometime between 1900 and 1910 in Dundee.
He listed his father's name as Jackson Cameron.
At some stage before 1925, he moved to Australia and worked in the automotive industry.

There may be some stretching of the truth in his story so I would appreciate any assistance.

Thanks in advance

Australia / William Francis O'Brien at Garden Island 1950/1960s
« on: Friday 15 March 13 05:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
Seeking some information on my grandfather, William Francis O'Brien.
He was working at Garden Island in Sydney from around the time of WW2 until 1960 approx.

I have approached the Garden Island Historical Society but they advise they have no record of him ever being there. I know this is not correct as I have photos of him there in his naval uniform and surviving family members remember him being there. Also my mother was his assistant and that is how she met my father. So he was definitely there and goodness knows what they have done with his records.

Maybe someone remembers him or has relatives who do.
Thanks in advance

London and Middlesex / Meredith: Samuel Driver and Mary Ann m. 1852

Seeking descendants of the above or any information, particularly on Mary Ann's side.
She was baptised 10/10/1830 in Stepney.
Father was Henry Thomas Cole, mother Elizabeth (McDonald).
Father abandoned the family in the 1830's - I believe he sailed to Australia
and started a new life.
I have a tiny bit of information on the family in Middlesex but
a lot more on the father's new life.
It's a fascinating story and I'm hoping I have it right.
Thanks
