Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / LACEY family
« on: Wednesday 02 October 13 12:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me - I'm researching the Lacey family and have found connections to the Isle of Wight and in particular Jessie Lacey mentioned in posts on this thread: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=543330.0. I'm trying to work out how they are related.

I'm researching George William Lacey born May 1878. His father was Benjamin Lacey born in Norwich (1922 - 1903) and his mum was Mary Ann Taylor (1851-?) born in Dorchester.

He served in the army and was travelling around the Middle East a lot. In 1901 he was a soldier living on IOW in Yaverland. He married Edith Emma Edwards in Shanklin, Isle of Wight in 1903 (she dies in India a few years later). He then married Carolina Mari La Cari in Shanklin, IOW in May 191. JESSIE LACEY was a witness as was Robert Gooden. I can't work out the connection here. Carolina died (perhaps in India?) in 1919. He then went on to have a child - (George Benjamin Lacey) with Georgina Kate Hewitt in 1920, on his army discharge records he claims he was married but I haven't found any record of this. In 1919 he was living in Shanklin, IOW.

Can anyone fit this Lacey family into their family trees?
Looking forward to getting to the bottom of this!

Essex Lookup Requests / George Williams Way, Colchester
« on: Sunday 08 September 13 18:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew the history of a street called George Williams Way in Colchester. My ancestor was George Williams and in the 1871 census he is listed as living in Bakers Row, off Magdalen Street, George Williams Way is also off Magdalen Street. In 1872 he married Eleanor Sutton and is listed as being a gardener of Magdalen St. He moved to Twickenham, Middlesex by 1891 but I can't find him on the 1881 census.

I'm wondering if it's coincidence the street was called that or is there some connection? Any help is much appreciated!

Travelling People / George Smith & Rodha Ann 19th century
« on: Tuesday 20 August 13 20:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm wondering if someone can help me, I'm trying to trace my great, great grandparents. They were Romany Gypsy's. I'm looking for more information on Rodha Ann (no surname known) so far I've found her only in the 1881 census
 - Age 29 residence Colne, Lancashire. Birth place stated about 1852 Barnsley

She was also known as Rodianne according to the birth certificate of daughter Angelina.

She had children with George Smith:
Angelina Smith (1872), Nicholis smith (1874), Eliza Smith (1877), Isaac Smith (1881) and Ada Smith (1883)

Can anyone help with finding her surname,  marriage record and death, I'd like to be able to go further up the tree with her. It looks like she died between 1883 and 1891 as George appears on the 1891 census as married to "Cloder" from Barnsley. They were residence in Rochdale, Lancashire at the time and had Thom Smith (1881). Cannot find them on any more census records or their marriage certificate.

More about George Smith:
Born approx 1853, 1 census record states "Bucknunston, Rutland", the other one states "Willowby, Rutland". I can't find anything further on George and would love to find his birth, death, marriages(s) certificates and any other census records with him in them.

Hope someone can help, thanks!

Hi! I was hoping someone can help me, I'm looking for a Peter Gaskin (b 1855, Dublin ; died 1912 Dublin South (possibly inchicore) and Mary Ann Adams (b Dublin approx 1854, death unknown)

They had:

Daughter Mary T Gaskin
Son William Peter Gaskin (1887-1918) served in Army in WW1

From a birth certificate I know in 1887 they lived in 9 Keans Court, Dublin North, Ireland but they eventually settled in South Dublin, possibly Inchicore.

If anyone can shed some light on their parents and where they came from or can fill in any of the gaps in the info on the location of their marriage, or death of Mary Ann Adams I'd really appreciate it!

Cavan / John McKeown: Belturbet, Cavan
« on: Friday 17 May 13 16:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm looking for information on the family of my great grandad John McKeown. I believe he's from Belturbet, Cavan. He married Catherine Drumm (born c1903, Fermanagh) in 1926 in the church of Miltown, Killashandra, Cavan.

His life is a bit of a mystery as he was so secretive, my living nan doesn't know hardly anything about him! We believe he was quite a lot older than Catherine (who he met when working as a labourer in Fermanagh). The had 5 children: *. They lived in Drumcole and settled in Belturbet. I have John and Catherines marriage certificate but he didn't enter in a date, the only useful information on it was that he was born in Cavan and his father was called John.

I can't even find any mention of his death even though I know he was buried at Staghall, Belturbet around 1961. I believe he had 2 brothers and a sister, 1 brother and sister went to the USA and the other brother fought in World War 1.

Can anyone help me trace the elusive McKeowns? Any help is much appreciated!

* recent details removed to protect the privacy of possibly living people

Essex Lookup Requests / Williams of Colchester & George Williams Way
« on: Thursday 16 May 13 14:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm researching my family tree and most of the Williams side of my family come from Colchester. I'm stuck on Ellen Sutton who married George Williams c1872. They eventually ended up in Twickenham, Middlesex. George Williams (born c 1853) was the son of John Williams & Elizabeth Cutmore. Can anyone help?

Also, on various census forms I have found George Williams living in the Bakers Row, just off Magdalen Street, I spotted there is a new road quite close by called "George Williams Way". Does anyone know the history of this street or is it just a strange coincidence?

Thanks in advance!
