I've recently updated my family tree and loaded it to a free site at tribalpages.com

Feel free to do a search and see if we have any mutual Australian (or UK) family connections.  There's no password required, but you will need my User ID which is brisgirl.

While you're there, consider signing my guestbook!  Note that the guestbook is just for comments only.  There's a link to my email address on the main page if you want to contact me.

« on: Thursday 27 April 06 23:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,

Anyone interested in Queensland, and Australian, genealogy might find the Queensland Family History Society's Snippets newsletter worth reading.  The six most recent issues are available online at:

http://www.qfhs.org.au/snippets.htm

Each issue contains Australian and international genealogical websites; updates on Queensland and Australian resources; notification of events both here and overseas; and general advice on genie topics.

Down / Neill family of Hillsborough
« on: Thursday 27 April 06 06:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,

I would like to find out more about my Neill ancestors from Ireland.  According to family info, they came from Hillsborough, Co. Down.  The family members I have so far are:

William Neill
b. abt 1796, Hillsborough
depending on who I ask, he was a soldier in the British Army in India, a spice merchant and/or a farmer

Lillian Neill, nee Weir
possibly born in Scotland

Children:

Thomas, William, Margaret, Martha, Jane & Abraham (my g-g-grandfather).

Abraham migrated to Australia in 1852 when he was only 9 years old in the company of his 30-year-old brother Thomas and his wife Margaret.

Any assistance or advice to track them down would be greatly appreciated.

How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here) / Private Responses?
« on: Friday 21 April 06 23:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,

I'm wondering why some of you send personal responses instead of public ones when someone has made a public enquiry about their ancestry?  Apart from denying other Rootschatters the chance to read useful and interesting answers, advice on further research, website addresses etc, it leads to wasted time and effort for other researchers who look up the same records and websites to help that person.  Why cause duplicated research unnecessarily?  I can understand if there is some sensitive information to be given, but otherwise why bother?

I would be interested to know what others think about this.

Cheers, Brisgirl
