Lancashire Lookup Requests / Quarter Sessions and Prison Records
« on: Sunday 19 February 12 00:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I have not been on this amazing website for about 6 years mainly due to hitting a big brick wall and the had a health condition but 100% now also two days ago found a new lead for the most elusive Lancashire woman. ever. She has lead me a merry dance for over twenty years.By changing her christian names around place of birth on Census returns sometimes ficticious. As of earlier this week I knew for 100% where she was on 1861 1871 1891 Census.
In July 1877 she was released from 0xford Castle Prison after being falsely accused of Wilful murder.Have masses of documents on her court case and 0xford Newspapers. From one of these papers her son said even if she was found "Innocent" he would give her money to leave 0xford  - the family disowned her for bringing shame of the Assizes and being a respectable family were not happy.
NEVER EVER FOUND HER ON 1881 Census assumed she had died No Death No remarriage.  However some years later found she was living back in MANCHESTER and had remarried she actually told the truth except for her age even giving that she was a widow and giving her deceased Husbands name.
BUT where was she from July 1877 to new Marriage in 1891.
I was clearing out lots of old emails the other night and came across one from Find My Past and they have new records for Manchester.
FOUND HER in Prison. Raced off to local Family History Centre ten minutes before they closed managed to check it to find it was her as her daughter's name is on the record.

There was a second possible one but did not have time to check and print that on off. Also possibly a 3rd.

I live in Berkshire and last time I came to Manchester it took be hours to get to The Library and did not have a lot of time when there.
Could anyone Please look to see if there are any Quarter Sessions Records available for her she was admitted to Belle Vue Prison on 18 September 1877 and released on the 24th September.
0r Police Court Notices for Quarter or Petty Sessions in local paper.
I know I still have not YET found her in 1881 and there is nearly a 15 years before I find her again.
But I now know how much she weighed her height hair and eye colouring - AMAZING
I only wish Manchester was nearer and I could do this myself which I what i am used to doing for Worcester and Exeter but Records 0ffice's there are central to railway stations and can do in under two hours and go when they have a late evening to spend more time there.
Her name is MARIAN LOUISA GRAINGER. But on Prison Register  Marian L Granger" I" missing. 0n her Death she was registered as Mary. Some 0xford papers just Louisa.
I am just so excited at finding her after so long cannot believe it. She died just before the 1901 Census in The Chorlton on Medlock Workhouse. What I need is a time machine and go and track her down.
Thanks for being patient reading this and look forward to your comments.

Hello
I have come across quite a few unidentified photographs that belonged to my grandmother. I am particularly interested in this one of a little girl.
It was taken at The London Portrait Company in Aldershot. Why did they not put names and or dates on back of old photographs
Any idea of date from childs clothing or an approximate date
Have searched the Internet without success on the Studio it was taken.
Look forward to your comments

Hello
I am not sure if it would be possible for someone to look in a current telephone directory covering PETERBOROUGH Northamptonshire.
I found my cousin had registered on Genes Reunited but obvioudly lapsed his membership therefore messages sent do not get to him.
I know he lives in Peterborough but  have no current details for him. I have been in  local studies library most of the week and should have looked at Northamptonshire  Phone Books if Libraries still hold them.  He has a very unusual surname so it would not be too difficult task to locate him. Problem is nowadays  not everyone with BT.  Have family details back to late 1740's taken years to compile and would like to share with him and his family.

With Kind regards

Porcelayne Ladye :) :) :)

If anyone can help please let me know and then we can exchange details via a Personal Message as I would not want his Name and phone number over the internet

If I am on wrong board for this topice apologies.

kind regards

« on: Saturday 28 November 09 21:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I am trying to find out the names of public houses in TODDINGTON Bedfordshire. I have forgotten the name I know many public houses are closing down so was wondering if anyone knew the area and could remember names of pubs there.
I know once I see the name will remember it. The last time I was there was in 1967/8
I have tried all over internet without success. My Uncle lived there but since my Parents died have lost touch with the family.

 ???
Hello Have not been on for a while I know what clever super sleuths you are. Can anyone out there help please.  In 1943 a single german fighter plane bombed and machine gunned the town. 41 people were killed and over 100 injured. For wartime security reasons newspaper merely reported a raid on a Home Counties Town.  I have tried Berkshire Recods 0ffice and ploughing through  newspapers but without too much success. Can only find two peoples names in Deaths  next to their name and ages was as result of enemy action.
Many of dead unrcognisable and if only two given that leaves 39. My Uncle was amongst the dead and I have been searching for his death certificate Registrars 0ffice could not locate it even went forward a bit in case initially a casualty but I know from family he was killed outright did not go to hospital. In a disaster when someone dies and no surviving id on them are they NOT REGISTERED or do they just take next of Kins word.
Done so far checked Registrars for Deaths  Newspapers for 3 weeks after accident. Checked Cemetry Registers all ZILCH he had a quite unusual surname and still nothing.
What or where do you suggest I go to next !!!!!  If someone dies however tragically surely it has to be recorded somewhere. He was i in 30's had only been married for just over five years.  He 0nly went into town shopping and popped into restaurant for a cup of tea and the cafe was obliterated.
Any suggestions gretly appreciated.  Hope I have put this on corect message board.
Kind Regards

Canada Lookup Request / Cavendish Alberta - Looking for a needle in a haystack
« on: Saturday 11 July 09 00:56 BST (UK)  »
Hello I am trying to find out the location of CAVENDISH (Previously known as Pancras) ALBERTA. What would the district No be for this area. ???

I am trying to find out information on when my grandmothers brothers actually went out to Canada.  Without success. Frederick was born in 1887 and Anthony born in 1889. ???

I have Anthony's Canadian Passport which was issued in 1919 his address was given as Cavendish Alberta. It has dates of when he left Montreal for Liverpool and date stamps for arrival in England. :)

I knew from my grandmother they went out there and became a Farmers and this too is verified on Anthony's  passport.

0n Ancestry this week I found his details on Incoming Passenger Lists 1878-1960 which verified dates and Places from his passport.

But no mention of Frederick returning with him. How can I find out is it called Homestead Records to find out when and where they lived in Cavendish. Also when they arrived. I would imagine it would be post 1909 when they would be 20 and 22 yeas old.

I had an email from another family member recently saying last known details for Frederick was in 1931  do not know if this was for Cavendish or somewhere else in Alberta. Still awaiting his reply :(

Any help an suggestions would be greatfully accepted. I am so used to going to Records offices and ploughing through but Canada is a bit of a hike for me and it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack with such a large Province as Alberta.

I omitted to give their surnames it was Newman.

Kind Regards

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Emma Dobel-Help with identity on Census
« on: Wednesday 17 June 09 18:07 BST (UK)  »
Emma Dobel was my gt grandmother born 17 September 1838 @ Heavitree Exeter dau of John Dobel Painter & Glazier Mother Ann formerly Hubbard.
She also had an elder sister. John and Ann only had 3 children a brother John
born December 1837 died 6 days old

1841 Census Heavitree
John Dobel    35   Painter     born in county
Ann               35                      "     "     "
Sarah             5                       "     "     "
EMMA             2                       "     "      "

1851 Census Heavitree
John Dobel      Head  Mar   46  Painter and Glazier  Devon Exeter

Emma              Dau             12                                  Devon Heavitree

So far so good - Then confusion sets in:

1861 Census Herby Street Saffron Hill
John Dobel       Head  Mar   56   Painter and Glazier Devon Exeter
Ann  Dobel       Wife    Mar   55                                  Surrey Mitcham

EMMA NISBET   Dau     MAR  21   Dressmaker             Devon Heavitree
EMMA NISBET  G/DAU            4                                   HOLBORN

CANNOT FIND A MARRIAGE FOR EMMA DOBEL TO A MR NISBET
CANNOT FIND A BIRTH  FOR EMMA NISBET HOLBORN
(1 in Dec 1856 Mutford Suffolk/Norfolk

0n Emma (1838) Marriage certificate in  her Father is JOHN DOBEL PAINTER
She is given as a SPINSTER

1871 Census No 1 Millman Place Holborn
John Dobel  Head  Mar   67   Painter and Glazier       Devon Exeter
Ann  Dobel  Wife    Mar   66                                       Surrey Mitcham

??? ??? Apart from possibly wasting money on a birth certifcate for this Mutford birth
how can I find more information about the 2 Emma Nisbet's. ???

By 1871 Emma (1838) was now married (1867) to my gt grandfather
William Rex(Widower)  and living back in Exeter.

This story also gets a little bit more complicated later but will see what your thoughts are on this first. If there is :-[ no first marriage registered and ??? no registration for her daughters birth Holborn circa 1857 what can I do if anything. Look forward to your comments. I know what a brilliant lot of people you are out there have helped me before in the past.

Many Thanks

Kind Regards
