Armed Forces / A little help please
« on: Saturday 07 June 08 13:40 BST (UK) »
I've just received, from a relative, my father's Certificate of Service Books which detail his 21 years service in the Army. I've copied the details below:-
Details of Army Service:-
Joined the Norfolk Regt (T.F) & (S.R) 24.4.08 to 4.9.10
Enlisted Royal Regt. Artillery at Ipswich on 5.9.10
Service... 5.9.10 to 14.8.14..Home
15.8.14 to 26.3.19 France
27.3.19 to 3.5.20 Home
4.5.20 to 28.10.21 India
29.10.21 to 25.11.26 Egypt
26.11.26 to 28.2.31 Home
Enlisted R.R.A 1.3.31 at St John's Wood to 4.9.31
Then discharged on completion of engagement
Source...Cert of Service Books (Army Form 108)
However, I've a couple of queries which I hope someone can answer for me.
The details show that he enlisted into the Norfolk Regt (T.F) and (S.R) in 1908 until 1910. This service is not shown as counting towards his 21 years. Can anyone tell me why? What do the (T.F) and (S.R) mean?
Secondly, he enlisted into the Royal Regt. of Artillery although he actually served with 'J' Battery RHA. He then seems to have transferred back to the R.R.A prior to his discharge on termination of his engagement.
Would that have been normal practice?
Thanks in anticipation.
