Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Cause of death
« on: Wednesday 29 May 24 13:40 BST (UK)  »
I cannot make out the full cause of death in the attached clip.

The best I can see is Cancer of the Face but that doesn't sound right to me.

Any suggestions?

many thanks.

For the life of me I cannot decipher of find any trace of the place of death of my 3x great-aunt Mary Bell who died in Tundergarth in 1871.

It looks like it may start with a 'T' as it's similar to the 'T' in Tundergarth but I can stand corrected.

Hoping, as always, that someone out there can come up with the answer!

Many thanks.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Cause of Death 1886
« on: Sunday 05 May 24 15:15 BST (UK)  »
Attached is a clip from the death details of a Jessie Wright Bell who dies in Dumfries-shire, 1886.
I think I can see Abscess & 2 years but I can't find the first word which possibly ends 'phritic'.
As always, looking forward to suggestions.
Many thanks.

Here I go again...
The attached file shows a section from a death certificate which I'm hoping refers to my first cousin 5x removed, James Stitt who died in Closeburn in 1883.
The writing is appalling (to me) and I'm struggling to decipher it. James's parents were John Stitt & Janet Hunter but I can't confirm for myself that Janet Hunter is the name on the document.
I'm also at a loss as to John's occupation (Coal Miner?), the location of his death (? Cottage) and the causes of death. All I can get from that section is ? 2.5 months & Debility (?) 2 months.
I'm not expecting 100% success with this but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Renfrewshire / St Ronan's, Bridge of Weir.
« on: Sunday 18 February 24 10:05 GMT (UK)  »
In 1925 my grandmother married in Glasgow. On her marriage certificate her usual residence is listed as St Ronan's, Bridge of Weir which was a surprise to us as her entire life was spent (as far as we knew) in Lanarkshire.
I can't find any hints as to what St Ronan's was so I'm hoping someone out there can shed some light on it.
My grandmother was 21 at the time so i've ruled out a school but she was a domestic servant (cook) so maybe it was a house?
Here's hoping someone out there can solve the mystery!

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Locus & Cause of Death Hurlford, Ayrshire
« on: Sunday 21 January 24 11:35 GMT (UK)  »
Despite the writing being fairly clear I still can't make out the exact locus and the cause of death.

The cause of death is legible apart from one word which I just can't find despite searches.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Death in Closeburn, Dumfries-shire 1952
« on: Thursday 18 January 24 15:38 GMT (UK)  »
My second posting today trying to ascertain the name of a cottage in Closeburn, Dumfries-shire where my 1st Cousin 3x removed died.
The writing is pretty clear on the clipping but I just can't make out the name.
As always I'd be chuffed to get this one deciphered as I've been trying for a while!

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Marriage in Dunscore, Dumfries-shire 1873
« on: Thursday 18 January 24 15:28 GMT (UK)  »
My 2x great-uncle James Jardine married Anne Johnstone in Dunscore, Dumfries-shire in 1873, however I cannot decipher the name of the cottage in Dunscore. I'm also unsure as to the exact date of the marriage - I hover between the thirteenth & the fifteenth.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
Many thanks.

I have attached 2 clips from the death details of my cousin who resided in Dalry, Kirkcudbrightshire.
The first clip refers to the death location but I cannot decipher the name before Dalry. I've looked and searched through old place names in Dalry without success.
The second clip is the causes of death and I can't make out any of it. Any suggestions would be helpful.
(Believe it or not the actual document is a mess and the clips here have been cleaned and enhanced as best I could get them so apologies in advance for the quality).
