New Zealand Completed Requests / Kibbles in N.Z.
« on: Monday 02 November 09 17:47 GMT (UK)  »
In my tree I have a Rosina Kibble b.15.5.1876 who emigrated to N.Z. on July 24th 1907 on the Corinthic and apparently settled in Wellington. I haven't been able to find either a Marriage or Death entry on BDM N.Z.  Is there anywhere else I can look?  She had a sister, Lilian Maud (Lily) b.1888 who, it would seem, followed her (I can't find find her emigration) and married Augustus John Diddell in 1923/10283. (Any way I could find their children?)  She also had a brother, Archibald, who emigrated with his wife Elizabeth in the 20s and, although I have found their later returns from trips to England, I can't find their emigration date.  Is there any other way of finding out what happened to them and maybe find some cousins?!

Thank you in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

US Lookup Requests / Millers in Ohio
« on: Tuesday 07 April 09 15:13 BST (UK)  »

I would like to find the Marriages of
        William G. Miller (b. London 1902) to Abbie M. (b. Ohio 1906) and of
John Miller (b. London 1902)  to Edith (b. Ohio 1908)

They were twin sons of Robert Alexander Miller and Jane (Jenny) Williams and both married in 1929 in Ohio (probably a double wedding!).  I have them all on the 1930 Census but have no Maiden Names for the wives - can anyone help?  Edith's parents were born in Wales so I am curious when they emigrated.  Robert & Jane had emigrated by 1906 and my Aunt and her husband followed them in 1929.

Hoping someone can help me!

Thank you in advance,

Hazel

The Common Room / Vessel "Clarence" 1881 help please!
« on: Sunday 14 December 08 00:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All!

I have a relation, John T. Williams b.1866 in Manchester, who is in the 1881 Census on vessel "Clarence" in Eastham, Cheshire and down as 'Reformatory Boy'! I have been trying to find out if he was maybe deported on this ship, as he does not appear either alone or with his family on any other later Census.  He was only 14 and is among lots of other 'Reformatory Boys' of a similar age - could it have been a training ship?  Any ideas welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Hazel

The Common Room / Help with reading image please!

Hi - can anyone help on the wife's name?  I won't say what it's transcription is as it may colour what you see!!  Let's just say I can't find a Marriage or Death (too early for Birth) and suspect anyway that it may be a nickname or middle name!

Thanks, Hazel

London and Middlesex / Dearing help please! UPDATE
« on: Sunday 27 April 08 15:40 BST (UK)  »
Hello All!

I have a Dearing (first name) married to a brother (Thomas) of my Gt.Gt.Grandfather William Moore b.1812.  I have them on the 1861 Census living in St Luke, Finsbury.  Thomas and William were born in Coventry and Dearing in St Lukes.

I have been unable to find a Marriage for them or indeed a Birth (c1820 - too early!) or Death for her - I entered 'Dearing' on FreeBMD and there were only a handful of entries from 1837 to 1910 and most of those were male!

I have tried Ancestry and Family Research with similar results - does anyone have any ideas where I go from here?  I even tried Dearing on Google but most results are for the surname.

I would be extremely grateful for any ideas...!

Thanks, Hazel

London and Middlesex / Moore/Pillefant/Shoebridge
« on: Monday 07 April 08 12:00 BST (UK)  »
Hello!

Does anyone know of an Anne Maria Pillefant or Mary Ann Shoebridge b. abt.1828??  My Gt. Grandfather (Thomas Moore)'s brother was William Moore b. St Luke 1832 and he married 'Anne' (neccessarily Pillefant or Shoebridge according to BMD) in 4th Qtr 1854 and had 6 children - Jane, Emily, William, Samuel, Mary Anne & Sarah Anne.

I am asking on here because the surname 'Pillefant' is unknown on Genes and LDS and Shoebridge isn't much better!  I am hoping to find out which one William married, without being obliged to buy his Marriage Cert. - I have others much higher on my priorities list!!

My gut feeling (almost never to be relied on!!) says it was Pillefant - I like the name too!!

Hoping someone may know of some Pillefants!!!!

Thanks in advance,

Hazel

Australia / Thomas GOALEN - deported!
« on: Sunday 16 March 08 16:07 GMT (UK)  »

I have a distant relative who was sentenced to be deported for 14 years in 1854, for embezzlement, but I haven't been able to find a record of his deportation.  He doesn't appear on any convict ship lists I have found and I don't know where he was sent, or indeed if he ever came back to Britain.

He was born in N. Leith, Scotland in 1807 and was married to Helen Gladstone in 1833.

Can anyone find any trace of them in Australia?

I would be very grateful for any help you could give me.

Australia / Williams/Newton/Stephenson/Harding - help please!
« on: Monday 10 March 08 16:56 GMT (UK)  »

My Grandmother's cousin, Ellen WILLIAMS was born in Lucknow in 1876, daughter of David and Grace (formerly ELLIS) WILLIAMS from North Wales, and had seven brothers and sisters.  She married William NEWTON in 1902 and was known as Nell Newton.  I have several letters of hers written to my Grandmother in the Fifties describing her life in Australia between Bairnsdale and Brisbane and talking lots about her family.   Her children were Grace Harriet, Herbert James and Ina Florence.  Grace married Jack HARDING and had Pat in 1933 and Anne in 1943.  Ina married T. Owen STEPHENSON and had Newton in 1940.
Having found these letters I would love to make contact with her grandchildren but am finding difficulty proving Birth and Marriage (and possibly death) dates due to Australian rules on BDM.  Does anyone have any ideas how I could find out who or if Pat and Anne married and if Newton had any children?
If anybody recognises any of these names and knows of their whereabouts, I would be thrilled to bits!!
Thanks in advance for any help you may give me
