Limerick / Where in Limerick City was John D TRAND buried in 1854?

G'day Limerick Board Rootschatters

Where in Limerick City was John D TRAND buried?

Is there anyone out there who can please help me with this problem?

One of my x3 Great-Grandfathers, John D TRAND, died suddenly on Henry Street, in Limerick City on Sunday 11 Dec 1854, whilst walking home from visiting a friend. He was stated as late of Ennis and an accountant. the source for this is the 13 Dec 1854 'Limerick Chronicle' newspaper report, which is on the Limerick City website.

There's a record of a Probate existing for him too. The date is 1852, probably the date of the Will, but I haven't been able to view this record either and find out if the Will and Probate record have survived. This record points to him being late of Lifford, Clare, which is now part of Ennis.

TRAND seems to be a very rare and unusual surname in Ireland, but I have no information on his ancestors at all. He was supposedly married to a Hannah KENNEDY and they had at least four children born in Limerick and Clare between the 1820s-1840s, John, Patrick, Annie and Maria. I have no christenings for the children or marriage or burials for the parents either.

All the four children emigrated to the Victorian Goldfields in Australia during the 1850s.

This may or may not mean anything, but the name in Australia has also at times been recorded as "Le TRAND" or "de Tronde", etc and there's the family story on this line is that we have "French Ancestors". But who knows?

It's difficult to make much progress with research in Ireland from here in Australia without the help of others, so I'd really appreciate any information anyone can dig up on the TRAND family.

Thanks for reading my query and also for the effort anyone puts in for this query  :)

Cheers for now

P.S. I wonder if I should also post this query to the Clare forum? Or can it be tagged there?

1941 REDCAR, YNR, ENGLAND OBITUARY REQUEST  ;D

Hi everyone, I'm looking for an Obituary for Alderman & Mayor of Redcar, Charles (Charlie) Harris, who died as a result of a WW2 bombing raid in 1941. A bomb landed on the Zetland Club in Redcar, YNR, England on 21 Oct 1941 killing him and 14 others.

I think there could be one in 'The Cleveland Standard', but I'm open to suggestions.

I hope there's someone out there who could possibly help, as I need to find out what family members are stated in the Obituary, including any possible married name for his daughter Edna.

In anticipation and with thanks, Neil (in Australia)

Hi all

So, where is the 1780s London or Surrey area baptism for Matthew Dubourg (Du Bourg)?

I wonder if anyone could please help me find Matthew's baptism. He was probably born in the early to mid 1780s, maybe 1782-1786, possibly in the Greater London and Surrey area somewhere.

In 1800 he is an apprentice to Chas. Rosenberg of East St, Lambeth, where he seems to remain until his death and burial there in 1828. His St Mary's Lambeth burial states that he died in his 44th year.

I'm trying to find his baptism to identify his parents, which will help me to fit him in to or out of the other Dubourg (Du Bourg) families of the London area.

I've already tried Ancestry, FindMyPast, FreeReg & FamilySearch without any success.

Maybe his baptism is amongst the Boyd's baptisms or other sources of baptisms for the region?

Thank you to all in advance.

Kind regards from Bonza in Australia  ;)

Hello to all enthusiastic London Rootschatters ...

I have a problem that I need solved, but being in Australia has it's limitations. So I thought I'd throw this one out there for some expert London researchers to please have a crack at.

Q. When & where did Henry Du Bourg (Dubourg) marry Sarah?

Period 1728-1743 and more than likely in London, Middlesex or somewhere in England.

First identified child is Richard baptised 04 Feb 1738 St Pancras Old Church, MSX.

Note: I have identified 8 issue born from 1737/38 to 1854, but I really want Henry & Sarah's marriage and also Henry's baptism if possible. I did notice a baptism in 1715 for an Etienne DuBourg, which I think could be a potential match for my Henry (Etienne - En - Hen -Henry?).

I've tried FamilySearch, Ancestry, FindMyPast and FreeReg sites and have used wildcards, but no potential marriage has reared it's head as yet.

Maybe some of you know some other places to check?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance. Cheers for now, Bonza

Can anyone help solve the Barwell Mystery?

The British Sloop Barwell disappeared along with it's Captain after it left Lisbon on a run in 1811. click here and read about it further http://barwell.webnode.com/forum/

We'd love to know the answer to this 200 year plus mystery. We're doing our best to solve it, but "all hands on deck" as they say, as that will give us more possibility of solving the mystery.

Also check the other tabbed pages for more info on the East Indiaman & Convict Ship Barwell.

Any feedback will be much appreciated. Many thanks and good luck.

Dear Rootschatters

I wonder if anyone can help me find my COCKFIELD family christenings, likely to be in Haddington or nearby between 1790-1820.

My direct ancestor John COCKFIELD believed he was born in Haddington around 1804-1806.

There are four known siblings and the parents are David COCKFIELD and Janet GIRVAN.

Known birth details for all the children are:

Edward (b.c1795)
Mary (b.c1800)
Catherine (b.c1802)
John (b.c1804-1806)
Margaret (b.c1809-1810)

COCKFIELD is such a rare surname in Scotland. My lot seemed to be around East Lothian, but there were cousins in Glasgow too. On the 1841 Census David COCKFIELD is shown as not being born in East Lothian.

Any help with some christenings or the parents marriage even would be a great help and much appreciated, as I'm in Australia and will not be able to get to Scotland any time soon.

I've searched available online databases for the area without success to date.

Many thanks, Cheers for now, Bonza

Hi everyone

Here's a juicy mystery for you all to have a crack at. Any help would be much appreciated  :)

Where in blazes did Joseph Jefferson come from?  ??? According to other records he may be born around 1709-1710.

He was of St Mary Magdalen Parish in Bermondsey when he married Martha Rawlins at St Katherine by the Tower on 02 Aug 1733. Martha was from Rotherhithe.

He was a carpenter in Bermondsey and Southwark from 1733 and maybe earlier, but I haven't yet found an apprenticeship for him.

He and Martha had a large family of 15 children from 1734 to 1762. Martha was quite young when they were married.

Joseph Jefferson died in 1792, he was of Long Lane, Southwark and his stated age was then stated as 82 years. He left no Will and I haven't found another Will as yet that mentions him or his children.

I've searched the London & Surrey online records quite exhaustively, but can't find a close potential match. I'd love to confirm his christening, parents or any siblings so I can go further back.

Many thanks. Cheers for now, Bonza

Hi listers

I'm in Australia and I'm not having any luck finding the following marriage online so I was wondering if any listers would be kind enough to please check some applicable databases for me to see if the marriage can be identified.

Details: John GILL and Elizabeth (unknown) possibly married in Wardington or nearby 1700-1705 ?

I have four children born to this couple from 1705 as follows:

1. Elizabeth GILL    b.01 May 1705   ch.04 May 1705 Wardington, Oxon
2. Mary GILL                                  ch.29 Sep 1710 Wardington, Oxon
3. Anne GILL                                  ch.13 Jul 1712 Wardington, Oxon
4. John GILL                                   ch.08 Jan 1715 Wardington, Oxon

I need to confirm this John's age and parents so any help is much appreciated.

Cheers for now,   ;D

Hi there everyone

I live in Melbourne, Australia and I'm looking for the marriage of John GILL & Priscilla (Prisilla, etc) [surname not known] and I was wondering of there is some kind person out there who can please do the look-up for me.

John GILL and wife Priscilla have 8 children christened in Wardington, Oxon from 1748-1764. Husband John GILL also appears to have been christened at Wardington in 1715.

But where did they marry? I couldn't find them in the Wardington Marriage Registers and they were more than likely or possibly married in Priscilla's parish, which is not yet known.

The nearest village near Wardington in Oxon is Cropredy. Great Bourton, Coton and Williamscott (Willscott) are close too and Gill family were there also and Chacombe just over the border in Northants is a possibility I guess too along with Banbury, Oxon, but really they could have married anywhere.

Sorting out this GILL lot around this area is a huge challenge, so thank you for your help in advance. It's very much appreciated.  ::)

Cheers for now, Bonza (Neil)
