Wales / Builth, Hay, Kington, Knighton, Presteigne, Rhayader
« on: Thursday 14 September 06 10:11 BST (UK)  »
Builth, Hay, Kington, Knighton, Presteigne, Rhayader is the sub heading for the Radnorshire board.
Trouble is the first three towns aren't in Radnorshire

On the Monmouthshire list I see that  Cardiff the capital city of Wales  and  the city of Hereford  have been moved into Monmouthshire?.
Any chance a moderator could have a clean up? This would help posters put their look up requests in the best places to get a reply..

Can I suggest as an aid to finding what county a town is in

Technical Help / Is Rootschat a button short........
« on: Thursday 16 February 06 12:48 GMT (UK)  »
...... of a full message board?

I,m sure there used to be a button at the bottom of  a topic page, that returned you to the forum it was listed on.
eg, after reading to the end of the topic, "restore picture of grandma", you could click straight back to the photo restoration forum, without scrolling back to the top.
Or's my mind going?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / What is it?
« on: Thursday 05 January 06 15:44 GMT (UK)  »
Found in the attic, this portrait.
No idea who the subject is. It's 24" by 18", in a frame, mounted in a  oval matt.
It looks like a charcoal type drawing at first glance, but there are no pencil or brush marks. So it's a print of some description?
It's on heavy brown card backing faced with white paper. Scrawled roughly on the back a series of numbers in pencil.

So does anyone have any idea of when it would have been taken, or the type of picture?
regards

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Khaki, is it brown or green?
« on: Saturday 17 December 05 21:53 GMT (UK)  »
I'm having  trouble  getting the uniform to look a realistic colour  in this picture. I think it's because there is so much dark shading in the image to start with.
The picture was taken 1916-18,  and the uniform could be either the Monmouthshire Regt or the Machine Gun Corps.
Any help gratefully received.
The  pic is a thumbnail.

This is writen on a memorial tablet.
Does anyone know the source? Is it from a hymn?

Breconshire / Ann Stephens- Llanwrthwl
« on: Tuesday 13 September 05 16:45 BST (UK)  »
Hoping someone can locate this person on the 1841 Brecon census.
She was born circa 1838, the daughter of William Stephens.(a farmer of Llanwrthwl by the time of Ann's marriage in 1867.)
I thought I'd found her at Claerwen in the Elan Valley, on the 1841 Radnor census, but ,  I'm now told, that is a totally different Ann Stephens.
