World War Two / HMS Karanja
« on: Saturday 08 August 20 00:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am helping a friend to find any information on her uncle Albert John Dixon who served on the HMS Karanja during WW2. He was with the 29th J.B.Welsh Fusiliers during the invasion of Madagascar in May 1942.
Albert John Dixon was born on 16 December 1910 in Pontllanfraith, Monmouthshire, Wales and died in Kent in 1976 aged 65 years. Would there be any further information out there about his time spent with the 29 Brigade during WW2.
Any information would be much appreciated.

Carmarthenshire / James James birth help
« on: Saturday 21 September 19 05:49 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping some one can help me. I have a birth certificate for James James born on the 20 May 1868 in Penpound, Bettws. Parents are William James and Frances Morgan but the birth was registered in Llandebie, Llandilofawr, Carmarthen which is an awfully long way from where he was born. Was that usual for the birth to take place in one place and registered in another?

On the 1881 census his birth place is Bettws, Carmarthen and he is living in Llanguicke. He is not found on the 1891 census. I found a possible James James born in Glanaman, Carmarthen on the 1901 census married to Harriet Isabella Dole. This one looks promising as they had children named Catherine, Frances and William possibly after the parents.

I have been struggling with James for the past ten years and hope someone can give me some advice on how to solve this please. Any help would be much appreciated.

The Common Room / Help with a newspaper article
« on: Thursday 31 May 18 05:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am helping a friend with his Family Tree and I am hoping someone can help me with a newspaper article published on the 9 August 1955 in the Daily Herald, London about Charles Theophilus Stollery.
There are numerous articles for Charles between 1937 and 1960 when he died in Dartmoor but I am particularly interested in the 9 August 1955 clipping.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Surrey / Marriage Clara Matilda Aldous and William Sanders
« on: Sunday 12 February 17 01:49 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for a marriage for Clara Matilda Aldous and William Sanders in about 1878 in possibly Kingston or Croydon.
Clara Matilda Aldous was born in 1857 in Bermondsey, Surrey and was the daughter of George Aldous and Margaret Kitchiner.
William Sanders was born in about 1850 in Brighton, Sussex and was the son of Ellen Sanders.
On the 1911 census this record has that they have been married 33 years so 1878.
I have searched but have not been able to find a marriage.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

South Africa / Death date for Edward Stevens
« on: Tuesday 19 January 16 01:10 GMT (UK)  »
I am hoping someone can help me find a date of death for Edward G Stevens who died in N Rhodesia possibly in the late 1970

Edward Stevens was born on the 6 November 1920 in Hackney, London and he married Mollie Reffell in 1944 in Dartford, Kent. On the 24 December 1952 Edward, Mollie and their children went to live in N Rhodesia. Edward's occupation was Schoolmaster. Edward I believe died quite young and Mollie and the children returned to live in England. Edward's death was possibly in the late 1970's.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
