Census and Resource Discussion / 1911 Census - Lev Family Pancras
« on: Sunday 08 October 17 14:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Joseph Lev (1865), wife Ellen (1860), son Eric (1899) plus likely some Havill children from Ellens first marriage.

They are showing as a family in the 1911 census summary books in the household Mr Lev at 6 Thurlow Terrace North St Pancras.  I cant find the actual record.  I know it exists as I can easily find them in the free index on FindMyPast, but I only have the ancestry sub, so I want to find it there - I have tried various searches but I cant find them

Thanks

The Common Room / Marriages - GRO Indexes
« on: Wednesday 30 August 17 19:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am sure I have seen a post previously that detailed potential ways to identify if a marriage was church or registry (or catholic etc) based on the numbering system in a quarter.  i.e. there is some sort of order the different ones are recorded in, I have searched and now I cant find i - can anyone please enlighten me?

Thanks

The Common Room / My Ayres Rock
« on: Wednesday 16 November 16 19:20 GMT (UK)  »
Good evening

I wonder if anyone could help me with this - I have been going round in circles for some time  now.

1851 I have this family in St Pancras

Thomas Reeve   57  Head Labourer b Epsom, Surrey
Mary Reeve   56 Wife  b Pancras
Henry Reeve   25 Son Coffee Roaster b Pancras
Elizabeth Reeve   19 Dau Mantle maker b Pancras
Sarah Ayres   6  Grand Dau b Pancras
Maud Seabright   22 No relationship shown b Pancras Laundress

Thomas Reeve married Mary Ayres in 1823 she was a widow.  I am trying to find the parents of Sarah Ayres.  A son of Mary could be the father or a daughter the mother if illegitimate.  I just cant find any possibilities .

I have Henry and Elizabeth all accounted for going forwards.  Mary and Thomas seem to disappear and I cant find any really good matches for deaths before 1861.  Sarah also seems to disappear but I believe she is the mother of Jane Elizabeth Bryant born 1876 (father Henry Bryant).

I particularly want to find the parent(s) of Sarah and if there are any sightings in 1861.

Thanks

The Common Room / Jabez Wakefield lost in 1851
« on: Friday 09 March 12 17:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I can locate Jabez Wakefield b. 1843 in the 1851 indexes on familysearch and find my past.  He appears to be with father James, mother Hannah and  siblings Hiram, Zillah, Aaron and Miriam.

I have an ancestry subscription but I cant find them!  Could anyone with access to FindMyPast pleaase look up the reference and/or neighbours to help me narrow this down.  I am wondering if there is a bit missing from the ancestry records

Thank you

The Common Room / Help with Emily
« on: Tuesday 30 August 11 11:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I need a bit of help with Emily Turnell b. 1844

I have her marrying Charles Smart Ravenor in 1862. Her father is listed as Edward Turnell, paper hanger.  One of the witnesses is Charles Edward Turnell who I believe to be her brother.

I think the father is Edward Baker Turnell who married Sarah Faithorn in 1824.

Sarah appears to be with children in 1841 - no sign of Edward Baker Turnell
Sarah/Sarah Esther  b.1827
Jane/Jane Sophee b. 1833
Sophia/Sophee Emily b. 1835
Charles/Charles Edward b. 1837

Emily isnt born til 1844 which made me question if it is the same family, but I also found Emily Turnell as a witness to the marriage of Sophee Emily Turnell and William Alexander Boon in 1859.

My big problem is that I cant find Emily with or without mother Sarah on either the 1851 or 1861 census.  In fact I cant find Sarah again until 1871 when she appears with Emily S Ravenor/Rawenor in 1871, as mother.  Emily is shown as a widow. I also can find no trace of a death or re-marriage for her.

Sussex Lookup Requests / Chailey Heritage School records at East Sussex RO
« on: Saturday 20 August 11 17:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I wonder if anyone would be able to look up the admissions in this collection and see if they can find George VERRIER.   I dont know when he was admitted but he was in St Pancras workhouse in 1918 and the place he was apparently admitted from is Chailey.  He was born 1905 and at some point when he was a child he lost both his legs in an accident, apparently he was run over by a horse & cart.

The Chailey collection appears to be quite extensive and it may be that there are other relevant records.  Has anyone any knowledge of the level of detail ?  e.g correspondence and papers 1903-1948 - would that include details of the children admitted and their circumstances?

Hertfordshire / Clock & Watchmakers Asylum
« on: Wednesday 09 September 09 11:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi - I wonder if anyone can help.

I have a potential sighting of my ancester William Saunders b c 1826 Clerkenwell living at the Clock & Watchmakers Asylum, New Southgate, East Barnet in 1891 and 1901.

 RG12 1054/9

I guess the apprentice records etc. are at the Guildhall Library, but I have been trying to find out exactly where this place was and if it still exists in some form.  I believe it was more a group of almshouses, rather than an asylum.

Many thanks
