Suffolk Lookup Requests / Ixworth bp PR (original not transcr) - Charles NUNN
« on: Friday 21 August 20 11:25 BST (UK)  »
Is there a kindly being out there with access even in these distracted times to the original baptism PRs for Ixworth? Repeat, original not transcriptions!

I am looking for Charles Nunn, the son of Samuel Nunn and Mary Beach.

Saml and Mary married in 1765 at Ixworth Shelland and moved to Ixworth. They had maybe 9 identifiable children, all bp Ixworth, between 1766 and 1782, none of them named Charles. According to transcriptions, two of the children were named George, bp 13 Sept 1772 and 3 March 1782. I have been able to kill off George 1772 (he died in 1849 age 76: it's his will that identifies a brother Charles, as well as other better-documented relatives). But what then of George 1782... I first thought it might be a case of a hidden private baptism of George in 1772 followed belatedly by his public bp or reception into the church in 1782. Hmmm.
Now, another bright idea. I wonder if one of those Georges is in fact Charles, misnamed either in the transcriptions or - perish the thought - in the baptism register itself. Please could sks doublecheck this in the original Ixworth PR for Sept 1772 and March 1782?
Many thanks

Somerset / Yeovil - Reckleford Hill - Rakes Buildings
« on: Saturday 08 June 19 18:18 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me please with identifying the location of Rakes Buildings? They used probably to be somewhere in the region of the Nags Head which was on the opposite side of the road from the Black Horse near the junction of Reckleford Hill and Higher Kingston in Yeovil. They're mentioned by name in the 1861 census, when there were some dozen households resident in the Buildings.
I've been in touch with Bob Osborn, author, and owner of the hugely informative yeovilhistory.info website, but alas he was unable to help on this rare occasion.
I think I saw a photo of Rakes Buildings on the web back in the 1990s, prior to demolition presumably to make way for the dual carriageway, but alas the photo has disappeared...

NBI records that this James C was age 62 when he died (ie b abt 1777). However, newspaper reports point to a James Cobbold having died of apoplexy in Jan 1839 aged 52 (ie b abt 1787), inquest at Rattlesden.
If the newspapers have got it right (and NBI got it wrong) then a DOB of abt 1787 means there's a possibility that apoplectic JC was the son of James C/Elizabeth Bradbrook. If so, this has big implications for the latter couple's family tree, as their son James is often represented in famtrees as being the one who mar Lydia Willoughby (and he lived to his nineties).
Could sks please therefore check the original Onehouse burial registers for 17 Jan 1839 - was James really 62??
Thanks!
PS I ought to add that I can't find a James C bp abt 1777 only a John C, whereas Jas C son of James & Elizabeth was bp Rattlesden 1787. Unless 1777 JC was nonconformist??

I'm puzzled by this bp record that I've found on Freereg etc:-
William son of lab James Cobbold & Lydia Willoughby bp 14 Sep 1856 Rattlesden St Nicholas, born 28 June 1840.
There's no 1-yr-old William listed in James & Lydia's 1841 household. Quite the contrary. Instead there is a William C age '15' whose bp, the son of J & L,  I have traced to 7 Oct 1821 Somersham St Mary. (I believe he died in Sept 1859 age 38).
I can't imagine how these two William's can be rattling around at the same time, so could sks please check the original PR for the 1856 bp?
Many thanks

Lancashire Lookup Requests / John Henshaw baptism BOLTON-LE-MOORS 1833
« on: Saturday 12 April 14 10:44 BST (UK)  »
From familysearch I have the following:-
John Everest Henshaw bp 10/9/1833 Bolton le Moors son of John Everest Henshaw and Alice.

Could sks verify this against the original parish record, please?
(I suspect for a start that 'Everest' might be 'Ernest' - and do both father and son really have that middle name? I also wonder if there is any additional info (trade, abode) that's not recorded on famsearch).

Many hopeful thanks

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Cobbold/Corbould baptism, Cowlinge or Chedburgh PRs
« on: Sunday 08 September 13 12:37 BST (UK)  »
From censuses I have:-
Thomas F Cobbold b abt 1815 Cowlinge, but I can't find a corresponding PR in Suffolk Baptisms Index (as on FindMyPast) or on freereg.
However, I've found this on familysearch:-
Suffolk BTs (no parish given) 2 July 1815 Thomas Corbould bp son of Francis and Ann.
I'd love to find that the two TCs are one and the same. It's a big ask, but could some very kind soul check the Cowlinge/Chedburgh PRs please to see if there is a bp 2 July 1815 for TC/TFC?
Many thanks.

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Rattlesden PR - John COBBOLD 1810 (revisited)
« on: Monday 08 July 13 21:29 BST (UK)  »
Revisiting this thorny problem after a couple of years chewing the cud... Suffolk Baptism Index (now on FindMyPast) points to a baptism at Rattlesden 18 February 1810 of John Ranson Cobbold, base born son of Anne. Could sks please look at this entry in the PR itself? Is he actually called JRC? Is his mother surnamed Ranson or Cobbold?
Also, the bp of his daughter Elizabeth 28 July 1838? Is John's middle name given there as Ranson?
Many thanks,

Suffolk Lookup Requests / 1841 census Rattlesden NUNN
« on: Sunday 09 June 13 09:31 BST (UK)  »
Might sks please lookup HO107 piece 1036 fol 8 p 9 and confirm the age of Elizabeth Nunn (who shares a household with William Nunn). On FindMyPast her age is transcribed as 78, but I'm not so sure it isn't in fact 73. Unfortunately, FindMyPast's image is very grainy. Is a******* or a CD of 1841 any clearer?
Also, I'd love to find the MI of Elizabeth Nunn bur Rattlesden St Nicholas 1844 age 80 and/or EN bur 1847 age 78. Can anyone help with this too, please?
