Technical Help / Laptop & Printer working together!
« on: Friday 23 September 05 21:31 BST (UK)  »
We have a laptop and a desktop PC with one Lexmark printer/scanner which is plugged into the desktop PC with a USB cable.

I've loaded the stuff (Little Miss Technical here  ;D) onto the laptop so I can plug in the printer USB so it works from the laptop.

Two questions ....

1. Why does the desktop PC get confused when I plug the printer back in to it? It seems to want me to reinstall all the "stuff" again :-\

2. Is there an easier way to use the printer with the laptop.....in a perfect world with no wires??

Sorry if this all sounds like I have no idea what I'm on about.......it doesn't take much to confuse me  ;D

Antrim / Advice please - new to N.I. research!!
« on: Thursday 22 September 05 11:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I've just sort of broken down a brick wall in Co. Durham which is now pointing me to Shankill, Antrim.

Really exciting but now I'm well and truly stuck as I've never had to research family in Ireland so don't know what resources are available, where they are likely to be, etc. etc.

The couple that led me to Antrim are James McKenna and Jane Bonner.
James was (supposedly!) born in Shankill, Antrim in about 1809, Jane in about 1813. They married in about 1834 again supposedly in Shankill.

For a start is Shankill an area of the town Antrim or a town/village in the Co. Antrim?!!

Any advice or suggestions on how to follow up this lead would be really appreciated  :)

Cheers
Tabitha

Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / *COMPLETED *1841 - Featherstone in Wiveliscombe
« on: Saturday 17 September 05 22:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

This is a bit of a cheeky request but as the saying goes "if you don't ask you don't get"  ;D

I'm grasping at straws and trying to see if I can work out who might be a "missing" father to one of my Rockett children from Wiveliscombe.

If possible could someone please look up anyone using the surname Featherstone in Wiveliscombe on the 1841 census?

Thank you very much.

Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / 1871 - George Saunders in Bridgwater area.
« on: Thursday 25 August 05 14:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Could someone please do a look up for George Saunders in the Bridgewater area in 1871.

He was born abt 1853 in Exeter (age 27 in 1881). His occupation in 1881 was Mariner.

His first child Thomas was born in Bridgewater abt 1871 so he may or may not have been married to his wife Lizzie (born in Bridgewater) by the time of the census!

Thank you

Tabitha :)

Somerset / Help please! - William Saunders
« on: Friday 19 August 05 22:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have a William Saunders in my tree born about 1879.

All I have on him is that (at some point!) he married Lucy Cockram. They had a child Mabel Elsie Florance Saunders born on 21 Apr 1911 at 3 Court (Cane?) Street, Taunton.

William died on 12 Jan 1911 aged 32 in Taunton Workhouse, three months before his daughter was born.

No one in the family can tell me anything more about William and I'm stuck on how to find out more.....like where he might have been born for a start!!

All I have in addition to this is a photograph which his daughter was given of him. (see below).

Any suggestions of how to chip away at this brick wall would be much appreciated.

Thank you
Tabitha  :)

The Common Room / Photo's - Eliz & John Locke - are these your rellies?
« on: Saturday 13 August 05 20:51 BST (UK)  »
** This is a copy of a post I have put on the Somerset board - not knowing if this family has connections out of Somerset too I thought I'd put it here in the hope of finding a deserving home for the pictures! Link to Somerset board http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=80766.new;topicseen#new

Just been searching through a local junk shop and came across these two photos.

The lady's photo is taken by J.S.Brown of High Street, Bridgewater and on the reverse (going by the writing) an older person has written:-

"Elizabeth Locke, Mother of Fanny, Eli, James."

The Gentleman's photo is taken by Alfd. Freke of 12 Duke Street, Cardiff and on the reverse the same handwriting as on the lady's photo has written:-

"John Locke, father of Fanny, Eli, James."

If these people belong to your family please let me know and I'll be happy to post them to you. (First come first served!!)
