As far as the family knows they are from there. Can't find them on any census' either .
They are the most elusive bunch ::)
Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

Dublin / Looking for John Connell in 1901
« on: Thursday 15 August 13 22:20 BST (UK)  »
Hello, hoping someone can help me or give some suggestions where to look please!
Have started helping my husband with his family tree again after a few years.
We have trouble finding his grandfather on the 1901 census anywhere in Ireland. He was born in 1882 in Kingstown, Co Dublin.
He was on the 1911 census with his wife Sarah who he married in 1905.She is also missing from the 1901 census too ???.Would they have both known each other then?Maybe they went across the water :-\.Going mad trying to find him/them!
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Lanarkshire / Brick wall hit! Where to go from here?
« on: Saturday 21 April 12 13:48 BST (UK)  »
Good after noon Rootschatters :)
After taking a few months off from the old family tree I am picking it up again!
BUT, I have hit a brick wall where my gr gr grandmother came from.
Her marriage was not on SP and I had to wait till the catholic parish registers became available and finally got the date of marriage of 15/07/1864 at St Patrick's Anderson!
She was Margaret Harvie/Harvey and she married John Doherty from Donegal and they settled back there when married.
Unfortunately there is no mention of a father's name on the catholic register only the witnesses so I can't get any further back with censuses etc :(
According to my mum, gran was adamant that she was from Campsie, but unfortunately she is no longer with us so I can't ask her any more questions.
I thought that maybe there might be banns or the like in a Glasgow newspaper maybe :-\
Maybe some more experienced RChatters might give me some ideas or is this as far as I will get?
They must have moved back to Donegal fairly quick to not have registered the marriage with the registrar.

Annette

United States of America / Finding Matt Lydon,Boston
« on: Monday 27 February 12 14:29 GMT (UK)  »
Good Afternoon/Morning wherever you are :)

I am doing a bit of family tree delving for my brother in law.
He is looking to find out when his uncle emigrated to Boston.
We think he went after 1911 but not certain.

His name was Matt Lydon and was from Boliska,Spiddal, Co Galway,Ireland.
Born approx 1888.Parents were Pat and Mary Lydon.

I can't find him going through Ellis Island. Is there other records that he could be on that I can search online?

My brother in law remembers an address, Hill Street Norwood where the family in Galway recieved letters from over the years.Maybe he ended up there? :-\

Any help in the right direction would be very welcome :)

England / still trying to find Sarah Hoey
« on: Tuesday 03 January 12 14:12 GMT (UK)  »
Happy New Year to you all ;D

As stated above I am still trying to find my husband's granny on the 1901 census in Dublin Ireland.
Have her on the 1911 married to John Connell in Dun Laoghaire and age stated as 26.
There are no Sarah Hoeys aged approx 16 on the 1901 census so we were wondering if she might be on the English census :-\
I know that it is a long hot but it maybe worth a try!
Would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction as I am not too familiar with the English Forum.

Many Thanks

Dublin / finding Sarah Hoey
« on: Wednesday 28 December 11 16:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hello and Merry Christmas all! ;D

As stated above I am finding it very hard to trace the above person!
Sarah is my husband's granny and I can't seem to get anywhere with her :-[
On the 1911   census in Dublin she is married to John Connell with 2 children and living in DunLaoghaire and is aged 26.Married 6 years by 1911.
Can't find her on the 1901 census, the nearest is a Sarah aged 11 in Cavan :-\
None of the family know her parents names or anything else about her.
I have been onto roots ireland and family search and cant even find her marriage, birth, anything.
I have researched my husband's  father's side with no bother using these sites and the GRO so what am I doing wrong here?

Any help or suggestions would be welcome :)

Donegal / 1911 census. Are these the same people.
« on: Monday 13 September 10 11:28 BST (UK)  »
Good morning all :)
I would like some advice please.I have my gr gr grandad James Bradley on the 1901 census living in Cullinean,Redcastle(where my family are from) with his daughter Mary.He was a widow and Mary was single.
I tried to find him  and Mary on the 1911 census but no joy!He didn't die until 1912 so I knew he was still alive.
So I just searched for any James Bradley of his age and up popped one but in a different area!
I have found a James Bradley and Mary, daughter but they are over at Greenfort near Portsalon.
Everything fits,he even has down that he had 9 children and also ages basically match.
If this is him what was he doing over there ???
He died in Cullinean and all his descendants are still there. My mum is trying to contact the cousin in Redcastle to see does he have any info on this.
Basically what I would like to know do people think that these are the same Bradleys?
I know he might have had the offer of land to farm there or something similar.Anyway any input would be greatly appreciated ;D
